Forest looked up for it and a decent side but never created a clear chance We were overall the better side scored one and rally should have had one or two more Hopefully its not a false dawn like the 1-0 against Fulham last season and we can carry that into the league proper
Despite it being the league cup it's a great result against a fellow championship side and a confidence booster. Forest must be getting PTSD from their last few visits
Really good start for Luton too. Given that and their EOS form it should make for a good game next week
Good performance. Especially pleased with the defence, which was immense. No player below a 7 imo. If we get 3 points against Luton next week I'll feel very optimistic about the season.
Thought forest looked extremely poor I'd certainly be concerned if I was their fans. Oduor and simoes have to be starting next week.
Notable how many times we won 50-50 balls and it was great to see us looking physically stronger than the opposition.
Agreed and score could so easily have been 3-0. Cauley header and Dom Frieser effort were big chances. Promising beginning from the new man. Simoes looked very good when he got on
Great win. More importantly believe that was our fifth consecutive clean sheet.? Been watching highlights of all the games on Sky. Well done Harrogate Town for winning on penalties at Tranmere. Unlucky Huddersfield losing 0-1 to Rochdale. Brother in law really down in the dumps after his beloved Sunderland lost to Hull. Him and my Sister are driving back to Walsall after tea. He will be a barrel of laughs I'm sure. Sister keeps looking at me and putting her finger up to her lips.
Defensive frailties and individual mistakes in the early part of last season played a huge part in our league position. There was none of that on show today. I think we'll be ok this season. That said, I still think we need more oomph in the final third, but if Simoes claims a starting place, then we'll have more striker options (Woodrow works hard, but he's wasted playing behind the forwards). Frieser looked useful and put himself about to good effect. Hoping to see more from Schmidt too. And at least we don't have Lewis Grabban up front. What a waste of a wage that would be...
For me, we were solid at the back and created much better chances than a much fancied Forest team. If anything, I had the impression throughout the game we still had a couple of extra gears within us. Happy with the win & performance, but especially happy for Cauley Woodrow in getting off the mark so quickly and looking dangerous.
Happy with the clean sheet and to once again beat Forest. Much like last season we struggled again to take our chances. All the stats were in our favour including twice as many passes. Let's see who we get in the next round.
Another positive from me was Callum Styles. We all know he has some silky skills, which were again on view. But I thought his willingness do get stuck in, graft defensively and do the dirty, less spectacular work was a huge plus point.
Had some nice touches, but snatched at his chance somewhat. He certainly likes to let the opponents know he's there. Gradually ease the lad in and we could have picked up a decent player.
Hard to tell - on for the last 30 mins - didnt stand out as good or bad, had one great chance but weak shot comfortable save for the keeper - did enouigh to get another sub appearance next game for sure. Not sure I would start him yet
