I could have reffed that one with my eyes shut. England were so pedestrian that there were hardly any decisions to make.
Thought he was frustrating. Loads of soft nothing free kicks the one decision he should have given and he didn’t even check with VAR. One thing we can’t argue is that even UEFA haven’t got it working properly.
I’ll stand to be corrected on this because I had downed a couple of glasses of red, but referring to the penalty incident, the referee summariser on TV (don’t know who he was) said he didn’t think it was a penalty because he was only tripped a little bit. If I heard right, that’s the difference between the refereeing we’ve seen at the tournament and the garbage we see week in week out domestically right there.
I thought yesterday’s ref was OK As for the pen I thought he got it right. Under the rules in England he felt the contact and is entitled to go down is one of the worst aspects of the game. There was no attempt to foul Sterling and they just touched. For me that shouldn’t be a pen even if they are given regularly here. In fact the whole reffing in terms of contact and falling over this tournament has been great. Wish we had had these refs in the EFL last season
Totally agree. "Entitled to go down" is probably the phrase from the commentators handbook that boils my piss more than any other. It someone nudges you in the street you're similarly "entitled to go down". You'll end up being laughed at and looking a total c unt though, as should be the case when any footballers feel someone brush their arsecheek in the area and throw themselves over.
