When was the last time you saw a goalie pulled up for carrying the ball beyond his penalty area? Just watching Leeds v Aston Villa and Martinez was nearer the halfway line he was that far out
It’s about the same time as I saw a keeper penalised for holding onto the ball for what seems like 10 minutes at a time. IE: never!
Same as foul throws, the laws clearly state that the thrower should be completely outside the playing area, ie none of their foot as much as touching the line. I've seen throws this season where both feet have been completely inside the line. Does my head in.
The last time I recall the "6 second rule" being implemented was against Liverpool a few years ago. I think it was about 5 years ago now, their keeper (maybe Karius or Mingolet) was penalised in a European game (vs Monaco iirc) for holding onto the ball for 21 seconds. That's the last time I saw an indirect free kick given for it. Edit: this one! https://www-sportsjoe-ie.cdn.amppro...-for-an-eternity-to-cause-bordeaux-goal-51907
They should bring it back. Keepers frequently hold onto the ball for 20+ seconds. Infuriating. They should also be booked for holding onto the ball and causing a ruckus when the other team scores. Way too much given to goalkeepers.
Has he actually been carrying the ball outside of the area? I don't think he has. He lets go of it in the area but kicks it outside. Nowt wrong wi that.
Don’t think that’s true Brush - this is from the FA site: 1. Procedure At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower must: stand facing the field of play have part of each foot on the touchline or on the ground outside the touchline throw the ball with both hands from behind and over the head from the point where it left the field of play Seems to suggest, as I always understood it, that as long as neither foot is completely over the line into play, then it is fine.
I think It used to be that the thrower had to stand behind the touchline but they changed it to some part of the foot must be touching the line
Actually the holding onto the ball when the other teams scores I don't get the fuss. It's the team that has conceded that needs the ball to kick off again. Just retreat back to your own half and wait. If they are then time wasting the Referee can add it on. It invariably wastes more time by fighting over the ball.
It's true, but if the team that has just conceded are still winning at that point, and the game is close, the team that has just scored will want the game to continue as soon as possible to keep the momentum up. Take your point about it wasting more time when they fight over the ball, but usually that's what the conceding team want, so they can kill the momentum. The keeper should just hand over the ball, or boot it back towards the centre circle, Peter Kay style.
One of those tweets say 'Just kick it to Benteke if you have to!!'... Wow football moves so quickly, you almost forget just how bad Liverpool were by todays (maybe not this season...) standards!
To be fair don't remember that many times they kick out of their hands anymore - usually played out from the back
I fully understand it just seems foolish to me. I'm confident the game would restart quicker if they just made their way back to their own half as quickly as possible. Alas football is one of the worse sports I watch for play acting and persistent cheating.
