Having a debate with my dad about who is our best ever goalkeeper. I said Luke Steele or Adam Davies. He says Dave Watson or Luke Steele
I’m sure the age of posters will come into this. I’m too young for Watson. Heinz Muller is my answer.
Watson for what his team achieved but Muller edges it on all round ability - just, probably because he wasn’t only five foot eleven so was better under a cross. David Watson was the best keeper facing clean through strikers one on one that I’ve ever seen though. Can’t recall him being beaten often. He’d have left us for a lot of money had he not got injured; I’m sure of it. Luke Steele isn’t in the same league as either - and I thought he was excellent for us.
Muller I can't think of 1 weak attribute. But then. His career was over more or less. (Never the same again ) due to that horrific injury at oakwell.
Müller was a beast, although he wasn't the best for one on ones. But his presence, shot stopping and command was a league above. I think Colgan was underrated, though.
Watson for all he achieved for us and elsewhere both as a player and a coach. Muller was excellent and the best penalty I have ever seen one of our keepers save when he saved the Neil Mellor one.
Muller then Steele for me. Obviously seen Watson and Baker on videos etc but not old enough to see live.
Are you old enough for Peter Springett, or my pick... Gary Pierce? - although Muller was a hell of a keeper.
Müller for me. And I seem to remember Sasa ilic was decent under Gudjon too…… Lars Leese when he played was solid as well.
We’ve had some fantastic keepers over the years and it’s very hard to pick one going back to the1960s. I think Muller is my favourite with at least a dozen more in equal second place. All mentioned above.
