Flown into Berlin today and whilst waiting for our assistance we got talking to the pilot. Recognised my accent somehow (common as f me) and then claimed to be a Barnsley supporter..I mean , the cheek. To be fair he had a BFC lanyard (?)..2 Badges on it and grew up near the East Dene WMC but come one....blo0dy plastics....the fact he now lives in Cheshire and still has a seaon ticket holds no sway with me. Posts ont tother forum occasionally and facebook but got us here so sound bloke to me
My main worry about the takeover is that should we make it back to the Prem, long-time occasional supporters like myself (I probably go to 6 home games and a few mainly Midlands away games a season) will be frozen out again. In 1997/8 I only saw 2 games, at Villa and Coventry. My dad, who supported the Reds since 1936 and went to almost every home game (lived in Bolton on Dearne) but never had a season ticket, never saw a single game in the Prem.
I think we'll be OK. Premier league in 5 years maybe. Better facilities & players. Keep the ones we develop, where we can, but if not get top dollar for them. Don't give Sam Winnall to Wednesday for jack **** for a start.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the capacity of the stadium now is a good 5,000 than it was back then (when all areas are used) and whilst the vast majority of this increase is in the away end, I reckon the club could look at ways of safely segregating the West Stand again, so that the North Stand could be used to house more reds fans. I'm putting a lot of blind faith into our new owners, but if the day ever did come where we were back in the Premier league, I'm sure a lot would be done so that the ground is accommodating of the increased numbers and also full.
Let's not kid ourselves, they're not philanthropists. They're here for a return on investment. That means getting us into the Premier league, flogging shirts and getting as many through the gate as possible. If and when we have a demand for more seats in the stadium than are currently available...they'll do something about it.
I can dream can't I? Besides which, 2 years ago today we were contemplating life in League 2 and look what happened.
For me the only way these investors are going to make the kind of money that would satisfy the risk of continually supporting the club is by getting promoted to the Premier League. Of course if that happens everyone will come out of the woodwork and having 16000 or so home seats won't be anywhere near enough, I think the intentions will become more clear when they start to mess with the ground, stick an 8000 seat stand in place of the West and it'll be pretty obvious where they want to end up.
That's due to the abysmal and incompetent way Spinks/Dennis et al handled the sale of tickets that season. They should've been shot with **** for that. think you'd be fine this time round tbf.
Don't remind me. I'd just got my head round it and was starting to look forward to seeing some L2 teams I'd never seen before, and what happened? Pulled the bloody rug out from under me, didn't they. Adam bloody Hammill... Paul bloody Heckingbottom... mutter, grumble...
I didn't see a single game in the prem either only season I havent watched at least one game since 1969/70 the last season I was too young to go. Have a Season Ticket these days but in the '90's I was like you and only came to a few home games a season when up vising my parents. Couldnt get up most Saturdays like I do now. That said I am not worrying too much about a return to the Prem at the moment
Why incompetent? We had 2,700 season ticket holders at the start of the promotion season. This increased to about 3K by New Year. Two season tickets were offered to all S/T holders and for the remainder people had to queue. They were not all sold, not many left (in the teens), so I can’t see what Messrs Dennis and Spinks could have done to improve the purchasing of tickets.
