They’ve nicked someone. Charged with 3 of the 10 women & child found, though thought to be as many as 16. One was an infant child of one of the women. I’ve followed this for a while, as it happened in Mrs C’s part of the country. Trying to give a brief background, as far as I understand it. It’s incredibly complex, with no end of police prejudice & incompetence, as the victims were sex workers. No end of tragic details. Most likely, more than one suspect. Of the possible 16, the first victim disappeared in 1996, of the 11 bodies found, earliest was 2007 & probably the most tragic of all. Shannon Gilbert, who 23 minute 911 call records her death & was made public in 2121. New administration In Suffolk County stepped up the investigation, as previous had been accused of negligence & cover ups, as well has dehumanising these women for being sex workers. Mrs C says, had it happened to the daughter of a millionaire from the Hampton, they would have caught them years ago. It’s complicated, but fascinating. Tragic & scandalous. Loads online, YouTube live streams from yesterday & historic reports etc.
An actual serious news item, ignored by the entire bbs. Though I’m sure when this hits the front cover of the S*n, you’ll all suddenly become experts..
I’ve been watching Will Trent on Disney they’ve just had a very similar story line in one of the episodes
Remember watching the Channel 4 documentary about this back in the day, around 2011 after they had found the bodies, no thanks to the young sex worker who went missing on Long Island, totally unrelated to the bodies they stumbled on when out looking for her. There’s always been suspicions of LE coverups, the leading suspect at one point was a higher up in the police force, just turns out he was into sex trafficking, but it does make you wonder who knew what etc. It took the new task force a few months to make this guy a leading suspect, all after looking through past case files. So how was it that easy to find their man all of a sudden? Incompetence? Cover ups? Just not caring? He’s linked to a high number of other victims, only being charged with 4 so far, but I expect that number to rise.
If you watch yesterday’s police statements, they put it down to advancements in DNA forensics & phone tracing, which is true. But it doesn’t excuse incompetence in basic police work & neglect of the ‘lower class’ of victim in the previous administration. In 2010, they finally traced the 911 call made in 2007 by Shannon Gilbert. When searching for her, the stumbled upon 11 more bodies. The other 9 reported prostitutes, the young child of one of them and an male Asian trans sex worker. The suspect is connected with 4 of them, he didn’t mutilate the bodies. The others are thought to be someone else, possibly connected by a driver, who drove the victim from the city to the south shore of Long Island. The cops are investigating other people, assembling evidence & building a case before arrests. There’s other characters who I won’t be surprised to see arrested & charged.
I'm afraid the lower class of victim has always been an issue with the police. Not only in America but all over the world. It's getting better but still not there. I'm nearly at the end of a book (factual).which covers in detail the dealings of police forces from inception to present day. Maybe not relevant to the case but covers the astonishing corruption. From bottom to top. Minor to major And how rife it was/is. But reading it gives an insight as to how it develops and why. Most of it understandable. If unpalatable.
Wasn't there a documentary about this. They were buried in shallow graves around a Florida peninsula not far from a highway.
Long Island NY. 18 miles from Mrs C’s place. there were 4 of them active over a 20 year period. https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-killing-season?cntsrc=social_share_ios_the_killing_season
We can draw parallels with this country too, when it comes to corruption inside the authorities. The Police, Social Services and central government are all very capable of murder, trafficking and money laundering respectively
