Gave it a few hours to calm down. Didn't work. Felt compelled to email the Club.

    Email sent as follows:

    Dear Mr Shepherd

Was it your intention to rub salt into the wounds of all Barnsley Supporters with today’s announcement of Simon Davey as the new manager? If so, congratulations!

Less than 24 hours after a spineless, inept, passionless display (of which 3 out of the last 4 games would fall into the same category), during which our new manager played a left-back in central midfield and a right-back at left-back for some inexplicable reason, you then announce his appointment into the full-time role!

Exactly what was it about yesterday’s performance that convinced you he was the man for the job? Perhaps the tactical naivety, the inability to influence the game from the touchline or maybe the fact that we only lost 3-0 at home?

I am utterly disgusted that you have maintained a charade over the past few weeks that you actually had ambition for the Club, when in reality you have just removed someone from the management team, promoted an inexperienced person from within and left us in a worse position staff-wise than before the previous manager was removed. We have waited patiently over the past 8 games for you to put into place the promised experienced and ambitious manager to give us a chance of maintaining our league status. Instead, you have taken the cheap option, as many suspected would be the case, and have chosen the worst possible time to make the announcement, when many fans are still hurting from the inept display against local rivals yesterday.

As a season ticket holder who makes 300 mile round trips to attend games I feel utterly betrayed by this announcement. As usual, we supporters will have no option but to ‘grin and bear it’ as we see yet another appalling piece of mis-management by the Club that has become so familiar in recent years. Once again the same positive soundbites have been given, and have been proved to be utterly hollow in nature.

The email address for Gordon Shepherd is in the Who's Who bit of the official site. Its joanne@barnsleyfc.co.uk, so it obviously goes to a secretary first.

Thats as good a post as I've read......

    for some time.

But don't get carried away thinking it will make a difference, I'm sure it won't.

Years ago under John Dennis ( I know he made mistakes), I always thought the club was as much a community thing as just a football club. I really do think the club cared for the fans. Nowadays I really do not think they give a stuff about us.

I am always totally bewildered that a defeat like yesterday, does not hurt the players, or the chairman, or indeed the manager.

And yes I will continue to turn up week after week, home and away, simply because, for all the hurt, it's my club.

It would be nice for GS and PC to stop talking to the media if all that is given to them are lies unintentional or not, to placate supporters.

how can you say that it's another piece of mismanagement?

Davey's team is made up of Richies players and ones rushed in before the transfer window was slammed shut. Not only that, but he lost probably our most influencial player in McIndoe because of his contract. The loanee we expected to galvernise our midfield was hospitalised by a knife wielding maniac. Bearing this in mind I think that he's done well.

I agree with the comments about the Williams decision yesterday, but the fact is that the transfer window opens again in less than 24 hours and this give us all the opportunity to judge his skills at team building.

If Davey pulls off safety this season it will be an achievement. Lets at least give him the chance to prove himself.

I think that some on here wouldn't be happy until we exhume Brian Clough and install him in the hot seat.

It will be interesting to hear Gordon's reply Curtis.

If he does get in touch maybe you could also ask about the supposed imminent departure of Howard and Hassell.

The mis-management I'm referring to there is the Board level management, not Davey's tactics.

Likewise- although reading back through my post i did not make that obvious. The board have appointed Davey, but without giving him the chance to dabble in the transfer market and put a proper stamp on the team some have questioned his appointment. Five months down the line we will know whether it was mismanagement by the board or a shrewd decision.
