Perhaps one with a Bristol Rovers affinity to it. Go on their forum, you might get invited to free drinks
I'd say forget the football and just enjoy the dozens of breweries, brewpubs, tap rooms and pubs in Bristol. Why let football dampen your time there ;-) You could ask at the Famous Royal Navy Volunteer, http://navyvolunteer.co.uk/ They have tellies towards the back area, have loads of craft beer and food is pretty good too (based on sunday lunches i've had down the years). If you like different beers, Wild Beer (at Wapping Wharf) and Left Handed Giant BrewPub at Finzels reach are both really good places to go that are pretty central. and I tend to like Grain Barge, just to sit and look out onto the water (if daylight). But you're literally spoilt for choice now, some fantastic beer and places to consume it.
Thanks for that, I know Bristol quite well anyway, The Shakespeare, The Nova Scotia and Grain Barge being regular haunts. However, we fly to Porto at 6:05 Saturday morning and staying at a mate’s house in Bedminster so a late boozy night might not be the best of ideas......
First time in Portugal so I will take your advice. We are visiting my mate (whose house we are staying in on Friday) who rents a place in Viana do Castillo (about 30 miles north of Porto). He’s trying to get a residents card so he can travel freely in Europe after Brexshit.
Must say, I really enjoyed Porto. Surprised me (though jesus its hilly). Had a walk to the sea which was pleasant and visited a few of the Port Houses. Taylors felt a bit old fashioned to me, but its a subjective thing. The white port by Ferreira was the mrs' favourite (another good place, probably my preferred place, though I defer to the mrs when it comes to fortified spirits!) and the fresh red by Sandemans was really fruity if you like that sort of thing. On the same side, as you walk from Sandemans to the bridge, theres loads of places to eat and drink but the nicest bit was a little mercato with small traders in. Not a bad place to try small glasses of port before you commit to buying a bottle for home. Some really good food there too. The Baccala is worth sourcing and the Pasteis De Nada. You'll have a good time I'm sure and your mate can point you in the direction of the better places based on more experience than my 4 days there ;-)
Always go to Bedmister cricket club. Bedminster cricket club. pretty sure they have sky sports. We always book in there when playing city.
