Don’t know if it’s been brought up before. But didn’t realise.( after watching Have I got news for you and then googling.) They are vegan all the way during football games. Fans. Players.Staff. Not allowed To bring meat or eat meat in the stadium.

Heard their snap is out of this world. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I've changed my habits eat less meat and fish but buy quality. Best move I've ever made, stopped eating chicken cos it's all garbage.

I have heard this before, especially from ex players on podcasts, interviews etc. And nearly all speak very highly of the man running forest green.

I could be wrong but isn’t their kit made from bamboo? Also, the owner wants to build a new stadium entirely out of wood. Again, could be made up but I’m sure I read this somewhere.

Whether folk agree or not is a separate debate but I can’t fault the man. He has a vision of how a modern business should be run and he’s sticking to it. Good luck.

Had to laugh at this from Walsall fans when a Forest Green player was laid down injured.

Saw this stuff on football daily’s video on forest green last season. Their owner is a massive green investor. Full green energy vegan etc as you say

He's the same person who runs Ecotricity, the company that has a virtual monopoly of the provision of EV chargers at motorway services. And to be honest, he's not been doing so well there. Probably suffering now from being one of the first in the game, but they have an awful reputation of being the least reliable of charging companies, with poor, old chargers that are knackered more often than not. They are actively avoided by EV owners.

Brilliant football club. I’ve been speaking to them a lot lately through work and was on a call with them at lunchtime today.

I don’t think they force their players to be vegan, I think it’s just red meat that is banned (might be wrong) but the ground is 100% vegan, their pitch is organic and has to be relaid every year (hence being called The New Lawn), they use electricity from Dale’s windmills on the horizon, and they collect their own rain water in a water tank for use in different places. They partner with Oatly, Planet Organic, Quorn, etc.

Officially classed by FIFA as the most sustainable football club in the world with fan clubs all over the place. They’re also a good bet for promotion as they picked up a handful of free agents at a time when every other club in League Two was holding their nerve because of Covid. I think they’d signed four players before anyone else signed one.

Me too mate. Quality over quantity. We only get meat off very small producers who we know personally. We're lucky that my in-laws' next door neighbours keep chickens in their garden, so it's the same for 90% of the eggs that we eat. But the supply of meat isn't constant, so if we can't get the real stuff then we just don't have it. The real stuff tastes so amazing that I just don't see any reason, both ethically and from a culinary perspective, to go back to the factory farmed stuff. In fact, I don't even miss it when we can't get it. I'd struggle as a vegan though, as I am a complete cheese freak.

Mere Tete being vegan myself I can tell you theres some fantastic cheeses out there that are vegan and I'm sure you would enjoy them equally if not more
Whilst I never try to push the vegan life style on anyone ...each to their own ..... I would and encourage people to read the China study about dairy and its effect on the human body........then see how you feel yourselves......having read it myself it's the only thing I do strongly advocate that you all should do avoid dairy change to a plant based milk........it will open up your eyes....
Leaving the subject of animal welfare to one side and the factory farming that is involved as it becomes an emotive subject both sides of the fence and it's so easy to become the target of abuse and aggression in some cases having witnessed it and also having been subjected to it personally not forgetting the accusations too
As of last time .I replied to the similar thread...lol ....I'm vegan because I can is my answer to why....I'm vegan
It's a lot easier than saying for health reasons then spending the next hour answering folks questions on protein sorce or the lack of it....let alone vitamins etc. And their sources... before being told I'm wrong and dont know a thing or I'm pushing veganism down people's throats...simply for disproving the very strong beliefs that I too once held before doing my research and moving over to the so called dark side lol.....I've even argued with Doctors who were so stuck in their ways and beliefs it was unimaginable thankfully I now have a doctor who accepts the pharmaceutical companies remedies are not always the correct answer and the herbal medications can compliment mainstream medicine different subject but part of the vegan life style....just going off subject the amount of folk on statins unbelievable jeff... Brazil nuts do the same job.....
    To be honest.
weve had the same discussion on the board some years ago that too started with the Forest green article and the vegan life style of their owner....which I replied to in a similar way...
What I will add is that these days theres far more choice of vegan ready meals and vegan products out there in the supermarkets pandering to the quick and easy meal generation then ever there was...but to get the true taste and amazing flavours you can't beat home cooking....
Yes it involves time what with all the chopping and preping but believe me it's worth every minute ....
I would recommend anyone to give it a month or too and try the vegan lifestyle whats 2 month in the bigger picture of life ....I'd also would add it will be extremely hard if the family aren't on board as it's too easy to get disillusioned by their negative comments ....try it folk you will be pleasantly surprised.... I'm sure.... plus you will experience the benefits of the healthy eating
If you do try the life style its important and recommend to take a vegan vitamin B12 supplement ......enjoy

My Dad turned vegan a few years ago. Took him to the cafe at Elsecar heritage centre when he visited and I have to say their vegan quiche was delicious.

Full marks to Forest Rovers for sticking to their principles and showcasing how things can be done.

I do wonder in a centuries time whether we'll be seen as totally barbaric eating meat but I just cant be convinced enough to become either vegan or vegetarian even though i hate milk and don't eat a lot of meat

These days you can get plant based food that does taste like meat and fish from the supermarkets...plus if you want that option you can blend herbs and spices to create the flavours you seek...

Last week I made a brulee (custard) type of dish minus the caramelized topping out of a roasted butternut squash...
Roasted it in the oven with a little drizzled olive oil blended it with a cup of soaked dates added a little brandy some cinnamon and a little vanilla and small amount of soya milk ....cooled it in the fridge ...excellent a very tasty dessert and not one person who ate it knew its main ingredient was infact butternut squash ...

Further to the cheese reply previous post you can make a lovely cheese out of cashew nuts.....if anybody is interested

Brilliant Helen. I can now picture Patrick Schmidt sitting on the bench, sampling lots of different cuts of meat, to music.

Best typo I've ever seen :D

Apparently vegans live for 5 years longer than meat eaters.

    Yep. 5 long miserable years.

How do can you tell who is a vegan?

    Don't worry. They'll tell you.

Mass dairy farming is quite barbaric, and therefore we try to keep our consumption to a minimum. Plant milks are absolutely awesome in coffee, but I haven't yet found one that doesn't taste completely vile in tea (any recommendations would be appreciated!).

As for cheese - I've tried a few vegan cream cheeses and was very impressed. However, the cheese on a vegan pizza I had was akin to plastic shavings, and even vegans have warned me not to expect miracles yet. However, the main problem I have with vegan cheeses is that they are often so processed and full of rubbish that they largely defeat the object of eschewing dairy for health reasons. I'm up for trying to make some at home though, and I am currently waiting for some nutritional yeast to arrive so I can have a go. As far as the fake meats go - they have come on in leaps and bounds in recent years, and they can now replicate processed meat pretty much to a tee. I love Gregg's sausage rolls, and Quorn sausages are pretty much indistinguishable from mid-range real ones, especially if barbecued and slathered with ketchup. There's a place in St Petersburg which does cracking seitan Frankfurters, which I'd choose over the real thing every time. However, I'm not under any illusions that again these products are laden with ingredients that no home cook would ever have in their kitchen. Plant-based doesn't always mean healthy, and I'm guessing that the salt count is through the roof.
