….there will be a Wycombe result. For every Bristol Rovers there will be a Port Vale. Amazing how many complaints have been written since last night, but plenty of praise too. It’s going to be the story of this season though - ups followed by downs. Maybe by January we will be on the fringes of the top six and then we’ll find that 20 goals a season man who will push us a bit higher. Or maybe not. Whatever happens one thing is for sure. This season will be better than the last. From my high vantage point last night (iFollow) I was impressed with the passing movement especially first half and we had a couple of good chances well saved. But then they missed a few too and the same things happened in the second half. What changed though was that our subs didn’t work while theirs did. I was worried that their number nine Wilson would win it for them. I was at that 6-2 drubbing that we gave them on Boxing Day when Clarkie was still playing but I never expected a repeat last night. It’s best not to EXPECT anything. I’ve learned that over many years. It was thrilling watching us dominate Wednesday but it was back down to earth last night. Let’s give the staff and players the chance to settle. It’s still early days. No complaints from me….
I think it’s going pretty much as I would’ve expected apart from that I also believe even at this early stage, that the fear of the ‘downward spiral’ and possible relegation has all but gone and we’ll be comfortable in that respect. The inconsistencies of results and performances shouldn’t really surprise anyone. It does look like that Duff has the ability and nous to sort this and we are gathering a useful pool of players.
Think we all got a bit carried away for a while after the Hillsborough win. Form will be up and down and we'll be somewhere around mid-table, pushing top half I reckon. Not enough goals in the squad to threaten the play offs. It's a work in progress.
If thinking this season is going to be better than the last is the bar your measuring , it's pretty dam low .
I think you're right. When I was working, I hated Wednesday the football club and the day (the mid-week doldrums). Now I'm retired, I only hate the football club.
