Is it a public holiday in Italy today? Reason for asking being there's a full programme of Serie A matches. 2 games at 11.30, 2 at 13.30, 2 at 15.30, 2 at 17.30 and 2 at 19.45 (UK times) Strange for a Thursday. All games available on BT. Bonus for us retirees pished off with gloomy weather.
Today is a public holiday. Epiphany I think. Tomorrow is a fake public holiday there as well Tricolour or Flag Day. Sure Tekky can give you a fuller answer.
Is it a Catholic thing? It’s Three Kings Day in Spain today which is their equivalent of Christmas Day. Italy the same?
Yep! It is Epiphany as Jimmy Viz pointed out Many countries in Europe make it a big thing. In fact ssome countries it is bigger than Christmas day and kids get their presents today rather than 25th December. We were in Lanzarote one year and there were 3 live camels in the indoor shopping mall! Italy does not celebrate boxing day either so the 26th is a normal working day. Many 'Bank Holidays' that are conveniently altered to a Monday to make a lomg weekend in UK take place on the actual day of the week the date falls here . If it falls on a Saturday or Sunday...tough luck!! My daughter made the same enquiry as one of their project uses an outsourced studio in Italy for vocalisations and wondered if they would be working today. Tricolour (National flag day) is celebrated tomorrow but is NOT a public holiday. Dating back to 1797 the official celebration is held in Reggio Emilia.
