Short while back a team called Barnsley won liverpool Chelsea in fa cup got overlooked for tv Big mistake tv companies tried to recompense now there onto giant killers looking for a result or results which mirrors Barnsleys famous fa cup run not making same mistake that's why we are watching Cambriidgev Man u . Sometimes we have to blow our own trumpet can blame Barnsley for being the catalyst in the fa cup rejuvenation
No, he's actually right. I had a tour of the ground recently and the entire Chelsea and Liverpool teams are now on display in our trophy cabinet.
Hard to follow the meaning of this post, but are you saying that the television companies ignored our matches against Liverpool and Chelsea? That's odd because I watched the Chelsea match live on the BBC. Maybe you couldn't get it where you were. I was in Princes Risborough at the time
Match v Chelsea was definitely on tv. My daughter was in hospital and I maintained a bedside vigil while watching the match.
Yeah it was on BBC half five kick off on a saturday tea. He's a slight point about the Liverpool match even though when possible giant killing ties are put on TV they want the bigger side not to be at home.
If you were the tv fixture planner at the time, no way would any of us put Liverpool v Barnsley on live
Aye I had to watch the Liverpool game on the beam back at oakwell. Unbelievably there were actual bfc fans who got tickets for non-bfc fans meaning real genuine bfc fans missed out. Unbelievable isn't it? What type of lovely person would do that?
Remember BBC coverage finishing with that song. It was so apt it made hairs on my neck stand up. Wish we could replicate a team spirit like that now........
The chelsea game is one of those games of football where the atmosphere in the ground can genuinely and honestly be described as 'electric'.
That game was extra good for our cheeky west stand lower fan who asked Michael Ballack for his shirt as he walked towards the tunnel and was thrown it. Top player was Michael Ballack.
Think I know where you're coming from mate but I don't think the format of how the TV companies pick the matches has really changed. Top Premier League side against a smaller non-Premier League side at home (ie Liverpool v Barnsley) generally won't be on TV. If it's the other way round, they almost always are. (Barnsley v Chelsea) Of course the BBC sometimes ignores this and just decides they want to pretend they're showing a live Premier League game, hence the Arsenal v Hull game in the last round. I know it was a repeat of last years' final but I can't imagine anyone in the real world gave a sh*t about that.
Probably not had a better atmosphere at home since. I remember all aspects of that day like it was yesterday, had a good laugh beforehand, wore clothes suitable for going out all night after so I was freezing but at no point did I ever think we'd win that day. Was just one of those results that made all the previous ups and (mainly) downs seem worth it for me, doubt it was the same for the 7000 or so additional Barnsley fans who came that day but probably haven't been since though!
Aye the four tickets per season ticket policy was a high point in our public relations. Well done BFC.
