Winner set to play in league 1 next season With the possibility of playing us next season who would you prefer to get promotion . Been to Northampton a few times so Exeter for me. Not played them since 1981
Exeter - never been to the city or ground, reckon it'd be a good away day provided we're actually allowed to go to games again sometime next season.
Lovely city, great cathedral, not far from the coast and in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Make a weekend of it!
Exeter for me as we've never played them in my lifetime. I also will respect anyone mad enough at division 3 level to do the Exeter and Plymouth away double. I can only hope the fixtures would have one midweek after the other is the Saturday before or after so fans and our team can spend a few days in that part of the country and chalk them both off in a few days.
Back in our promotion season, we had three consecutive away games in October and November at Plymouth, Portsmouth & Exeter. We beat Plymouth 3-1, Portsmouth & Exeter 1-0 with our winning goals in the last two being Glyn Riley (I think Derrick Parker was injured at the time). I went down on a mini bus from Gilroyd club to Plymouth, the train to Portsmouth (a special, using stock from the 1880's!) and finally in the back of my mate's mini for the Exeter match! Coming up to 40 years ago! Where does the time go? Exeter is a lovely city in a beautiful county.
I remember that period of a memorable season well. Did both the Plymouth and Portsmouth games via the football special train but never made the Exeter trip. The Plymouth win is still one of my all time favourite trips away. Was a lovely sunny October afternoon and we were one down at half time if I remember correctly, before we stormed back to net three in the second half through Lester, Riley and Glavin I think....? The last was a tap in from King Ronnie on a breakaway right at the end.
Never seen us at Exeter - only done Plymouth and Torquay down there so would love a trip there next season if we do finish up in L1 Northampton easier for me to get to but seen us there a couple of times ( cup defeat against Northampton and league draw against Coventry) I'd still go but would much prefer Exeter
The previous season at Plymouth, we'd played really well but lost 2-1 (Tommy Graham scored) just before Christmas. For the 3-1 victory (you're right with the scorers), we'd played rubbish for seventy minutes. Then we tore Plymouth apart in the last twenty. They couldn't get the ball off us!
Took the train from Exeter to Bodmin last year - spectacular, especially the stretches around Exmouth, Dawlish and Plymouth / Saltash. Hoping to head back down that way soon. Lovely part of the world.
I saw them all because this was during my living near Salisbury period and I took advantage of my HM Forces Rail Card for cheap and easy travel to all the southern grounds that we visited that season. The Exeter and Plymouth trips were highlights for me.
To keep with tradition. Some fans should have been allowed in. Social distancing would have been simple. Football stadiums are open spaced and you don't have much face to face contact as you're all facing the pitch for the most part.
