With our first clean sheet in months, away at Play Off chasing Swansea. Not only that, but all this achieved without our usual standard & style of play under Struber. Quite a number of our players seemed out of sorts, but we still managed to come away with a draw, something we'd all have accepted before a ball was kicked this afternoon. Well done on getting a good point today, lads. But a huge well done to the fans for making that long trek to back the team.
Agreed, some of our fans are still on their way home as I write. 10 hour journey there and back, respect and admiration to every one of them. And a great result too, well done lads!
It's a right trek to Swansea. Never been to a game there, but attended a Building Conference at the Town Hall once. Proper shattered when I finally got back home, so respect to all our fans who went down and back in the day.
Only time I’ve been with Barnsley was the same season we beat them in the playoffs, towards the start of the 2005/06 season. Lost 3-1, Trundle scored and Jacob Burns for us. Long drive back.
I went there in 1981 at the start of that great League Cup run. We'd beaten them 2-0 at home, and we were 3-1 down at Vetch Field when Neil Cooper lobbed the keeper with his knee-cap from the edge of the box. I remember trying to sleep on the floor of a minibus on the way home under a seat, surrounded by tab ends and litter, and getting home about 3 in the morning. It's miles away! In the next round we annihilated Brighton 4-1, with big Trev chipping the keeper from just outside the Cutting Edge pub, then we smashed Man City at Oakwell with big Trev's header. Tip: If you ever meet Joe Corrigan, don't mention Trevor Aylott. I mentioned him once but I think I got away with it. In the fog at Anfield we drew 0-0 in front of 95,000 travelling fans, 47,000 of which didn't arrive until the second half. Then we finally lost the replay at Oakwell in spite of the bin man putting us 1 up. Oh, and we bet Peterborough 9-2 on aggregate in the first round!
I was at that one too. Great result, but one the worst views I've had at a football match. The wire mesh made it feel like we were in a rabbit hutch.
Respect to every single one of you making arguably the worse journey of the season. With 4 away games in 5 over the festive and new year period, it's a lot of extra cost this time of year and for where we are in the league.
You missed Winston Campbell knocking someone out for looking at him funny or being Welsh or just because he could. And Trev was closer to the Red Lion than the Cutting Edge, beyond The Ship. But McCarthy's header was more powerful. And his wn*ker sign, front and centre on midweek sports special after the City victory was almost as good as the win. But couldn't beat Ronnie's hat. I miss the 80s.
