I'm thinking of starting a foundation in honour of the old boy this year which will include Golf Days with Ex BFC players along with an annual Schools Football Tournament around Barnsley. The main reason is to raise money for charity and to give something back to the community. First question is : Has anyone got any experience of setting up Charities/Foundations etc and if possible to interested in supporting me, as I have zero experience in the field. Secondly, when thinking about Charities to give to the first thing (as my Dad and I were/are Diabetic) was to fund raise for Diabetes UK, however as they are quite a big charity and already have national coverage I don't think we could offer anything that will do much more than scratch the surface. My next thought was due to my Dad being heavily involved in Kids Football and bringing kids through the system or signing them for BFC as Assistant Manager (David Hirst/Carl Tiler/Steve Agnew/Scott Jones/Andy Liddell etc were all brought to the club by my Dad) then it would be more apt to create a charity where schools or teams could apply for grants for sporting equipment within the Barnsley area. Eric was a keen sportsperson not just football and he loved coming to watch me play cricket or go for a game of golf or snooker. At the moment I'm siding towards the latter, but has anyone got any other ideas on what Charities could need help that would be fitting? Cheers Andrew
School football was my first interaction with your dad, he reffed a couple of games, and even though he was reffing he was still coaching us (probably just grafted into his DNA!), slapping us on the back when we scored, stuff like that. He was brilliant with us, called me a lucky sod when a cheeky back heel from defense didn't get punished! I've no experience of setting up charities, but I (along with most on here I reckon) will definitely contribute. Good luck with it.
I don't really have any advice mate but thought I'd post just to say that's a wonderful thing to do and a fitting tribute to your old man. I do know some people who run registered charities so I'll drop them a note.
Lovely idea, and it would be a fitting tribute to your Dad. On the diabetes theme, have you considered one of the smaller diabetes charities? Attached is something I've just found, which lists a few others. I'm sure a more extensive search might turn up a few more. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-charities.html Good luck with making this thing happen, should you choose to go ahead with it.
Diabetes UK can never have too much fundraising. My mum is quite heavily involved, though not so much with the fundraising side, but I'll have a word with her if you like and get back to you.
That is a great idea and very fitting for your dad. Setting up a charity is not that hard at all. All you need is three trustees. I’ve attached the link on the government website which gives you the step by step process. https://www.gov.uk/setting-up-charity If you want to take this forward and need any help just message me. Happy to help you out.
Brilliant idea. What about something like this? Providing tickets or equipment? https://amp.theguardian.com/society...ullah-refugee-football-asylum-seeker-barnsley
