So he’s been “ released” from the initial 2 match squad after one game. He’s had a good season for Yorkshire and must have been on a high when selected again internationally after struggling last year. The only logical explanation is that he’ll get called up again for the remaining Tests but that would seem unlikely if Moeen is a success. Cricket is certainly a rollercoaster nowadays ! HARRY BROOK FOR ENGLAND
Feel sorry for Bess. Why the **** do we keep going back to Moeen Ali. It's absolutely ridiculous, he's not a long term solution at test match level. Let him play ODI's and T20. I'd like to know who made the call to bring him back.
Because they want a genuine all rounder to balance the side with 5 bowlers. Without Stokes and Woakes we're short in that department. Curran, Bess and Overton aren't trusted yet but might be eventually. I'm no Moeen fan but I was confident they'd pick him once we needed a spinner for this test. Personally I'd have give Stevens a cap. Don't care how old he is, he's the best all rounder in the championship and we need temporary cover. Hopefully Curran, Overton or Robinson outbat Moeen in this Test and push for that all rounder spot.
Michael Vaughan did. If you watch carefully, he says something on the BBC then a week or two later it happens. He’s Root’s mentor and clearly has his ear. Hameed will play for Crawley today if Vaughan has his way, not that I’d disagree with that but Sibley needs to go too.
But they have added to an already bloated squad. I would be annoyed being overlooked in place of someone not in the original squad, just because they had a few good innings in the Hundred.
Exactly From England’s squad to Yorkshire seconds squad is no great confidence booster for a 24 year old
May as well just ask Ian Botham if he fancies a game too!! Sorry, I strongly disagree with Moeen Ali's inclusion however they try to spin it!
He says stuff for a reaction. When he’s being sensible he talks sense and is worth listening to, but he definitely likes the limelight far too much.
Michael Vaughan has an opinion about everything and 99% of the time hes wrong, but he only ever mentions the 1% he got right. Last year he wanted Tom Banton in the test squad at 5, and, in his words, 'build the team around him'. Funnily enough he hasn't repeated it for a while.
Moeen Ali has only been selected as a replacement for Stokes to get a spinner into the side with 4 seamers. If Stokes or maybe even Woakes were available, Bess or Leach would play and bat at 8 or 9. But at the moment they seem to want to accomodate Curran as a 4th seamer batting as low as 8.
He often makes some good points but I do get the feeling that Vaughan (and Flintoff) have found retirement tough. There appears to be a desperation to stay relevant.
Bit like Danny Murphy. On BBC he talks some sense, on talksport he talks bo*****s and gets contradicted by Simon Jordan.
