Stoke City: 3 yellow cards and a penalty. Bristol City: 2 yellow cards. Huddersfield Town: 1 yellow card. West Brom: Own goal and 8 starters getting a yellow. That's just the last four games. It's getting to that point now where it's a surprise if we don't give away a penalty. I am surprised the FA didn't do anything about the bookings at West Brom.
Most yellow cards in English football Edit. Could possibly be wrong, may have one less than Northampton and Oxford Town depending on whether table was updated after today's game or not
It's one of many areas that needs addressing. A number of our fans around where I sit just want to blame the officials for everything that goes wrong on the pitch but the players have to start taking some responsibility for their own actions in term of discipline. If we aren't more careful then I wouldn't be surprised to see us in trouble with the authorities.
It’s funny because there’s fans near me who would have you think there’s a conspiracy against us with refereeing decisions. We were saying today how we wondered how many more games it’ll take before they realise we aren’t good enough rather than just blaming the ref every week
Blaming the ref and linesman are all part of the emotion of a football match in my mind. And Wilks got full on shoved in the back under the refs nose and got nothing whereas everytime a Stoke player went down they benefitted. Could do with a homer ref once in a while!
Yes but the assessor may have had something to do with it as most of the bookings were not 'bookable' offences particularly in the second half where the referee lost the plot totally. For example Cavare 74' obstructed near the halfway line having won the ball gets a booking!!! Stats don't lie. Look back at the penalties conceded/won, yellow cards etc at Oakwell over the past few seasons even when we had a dominant side last season -the pattern is the same given Barnsley are not a dirty side. The law of averages dictates we should have had roughly the same number regardless of whether or not most awarded against Barnsley were valid decisions. It is the failure to award clear cut penalties in our favour that skews the stats. Yesterday was a prime example regardless of whether the penalty against Mowatt was correct (replays suggest it wasn't), but we had a blatant handball appeal ignored, Woodrow was impeded and brought down by two defenders and in full view of the referee. The 3rd claim for the 2nd half trip from where the ref was standing may have looked like no contact so I can forgive the ref but other camera angles particularly from behind the goal line shows the defender caught the players ankle as he had passed him. By then though, the ref seemed to have decided not to give anything Barnsley's way. We were awful but tehe Ref was even worse!
See my reply to dreamboy3000 above (although I agree we are not good enough). However, the point about our results/performances and the referees are mutually exclusive
In the end we are kicking out at players who are too good for us. If we didn't you can only imagine what some of the scores might have been.
The ref was poor yesterday but a week prior against Bristol we got lucky because Mowatt should’ve been sent off & was also lucky not to give away a pen. I think a lot of our fans just look at the game through rose tinted glasses. I remember one particular game last season where Pinnock should’ve been sent off in the first 10 minutes in a game we ended up winning & then I came on here to read how bad & anti-Barnsley the ref was. You might occasionally get a referee who bottles giving you something away at a big club or whatever but I don’t believe there’s any corruption with our refs it’s just that players are fitter & faster than ever & it’s hard to keep up with play
