There's been a few dissenters recently, but the vast majority have stuck by him. One of the reasons for that is that he's a Barnsley lad and we warm to our own. Another is that we did so well throughout 2016 and we're not going to forget that in a hurry. A lot of us also got pig sick of us sacking managers so quickly and have been determined to show more patience. But, from my point of view at any rate, the biggest factor in sticking with him through these crap performances and results is that I think he's had a bum deal. He's had all his best players sold from under him. More, and in a much shorter time frame, than any other manager while I've been watching the club. A number of us also suspected that the signings we were bringing in weren't necessarily what Hecky wanted. We've argued this point all season with anyone who has been pointing the finger of blame at the manager. "It's not Hecky's fault" - we've said it over and over and over again until we're blue in the face. So, if we think he's been put in a sh*tty position, don't you think he does too? And with that in mind, how can we blame him if he wants to go? How can we use the above argument time and time again and then criticise Hecky for leaving all that sh*t behind?
Because he is supposed to be a fan so he might show a bit of solidarity with his fellow supporters who are stuck with it? Or things might be about to improve under a more ambitious ownership? Let's be honest though - it's only the "fickle" maligned supporters who genuinely care. The folk in the game are just blood sucking parasites.
I'm concerned we are now in a sticky situation. Relegation and the managerial merry go round starts again. Appoint someone who makes a fist of it they'll be off in the summer. Just one more season of stability, that's all I wanted. But aye, your post is correct. Blame somewhere but not solely at Hecky's feet.
They're just employees, no more or less. If we start believing they're going to show the same commitment and loyalty as us fans then we're always going to feel let down.
Same thing happened to Keith Hill in very similar circumstances, don't see many people feeling sorry for him.
Mr Heckingbottom is a lifelong Barnsley supporter like you and me. His fellow supporters have stuck by him despite three home wins in a year. No chance of him doing the same.
Hills team wasn’t Dismantled in the same way let’s be honest. As Jay says I have never known a manager have a whole team taken from him other than Wilson mk2 post relegation and that was for the best.
I never said feel sorry for him, I said how can we blame him. Also, Keith Hill hadn't won us promotion and taken us to Wembley twice, he's not from Barnsley, the sale of players wasn't nearly as radical, and he's a lovely person.
Firstly - your posts are far too long. It would be better if you posted more concise posts more frequently. As for the content of your post: I’m not bothered that Hecky came from Barnsley - the reason he got support from most of the fans is solely because he showed he could do the job. If he was a failure - no foooker would want to know him. And as for other managers - we have had a string of really good managers - Robbins was a real good un - but all worked under very limiting circumstances. Hopefully Hecky is the last of that batch.
Hes spent seven million and doesnt know his best twelve or best formation. Hes had his own squad and time to show his vision. It ain't worked good rid
