Phew, thank god. I saw how Rooney was saying a 30% pay cut could "financially ruin" football players so I'm relieved they're taking it from the fatcat cleaners and groundsmen instead.
To be fair he had a point why should footballers feel pressured to take a pay cut? Are boris and his mates taking a 20% pay cut?
Rooney is such an arsehole. He's not doing himself any favours. He was a great football talent in his younger days, but comes over as a horrible human being. He'd do well to keep his uneducated mouth shut & try to see the plight of others. He won't I'm sure.
There's all sorts of whataboutery you can deploy to support him but in my book it's properly tw*ttish and lacking in perspective to complain about losing the top 30% of a six figure weekly income when non-playing staff are losing 20% of a much lower income. A loss of income which might put them in real financial difficulty rather than having to make the difficult decision to forego the dodo feather interior trim on this week's Bentley.
I don't know if MPs have agreed to a pay cut but that is not the point. MPs aren't being furloughed whereas mega rich football clubs are using the scheme to pay low earning staff while millionaire footballers continue to be paid millions of pounds per year.
I agree with you. Footballers are such an easy target. Why is nobody screaming to parliament that Lewis Thing the car-driver, or the Irish golf man need to take a pay-cut? What about Adele? Why is she exempt from all the whining about giving a bit back? Tyson Fury earned loads recently. Hand some of it over, son. You only had to stand there while some big bloke who wanted to kill you, tried to kill you. It's nice if footballers want to contribute. If I were one, though, getting the usual kicking for not supporting the NHS, I'd be clinging onto every last fvcking penny.
Know some plumbers who must earn as much as Boris and his mates. Had one fit me a new toilet a couple of months ago (i bought the toilet too). Charged me 100£: not bad for an hour or so work.
The difference is that in football we have very rich clubs using the furlough scheme. The money in PL football makes it an inappropriate use of taxpayers money in my opinion.
Mps agree to a pay cut? Doubt it do you? But like already said is it just footballers or tyson fury,Lewis hamilton, soap stars should they all take a pay cut aswell?
Rooney and derby are in the Championship and why should rooney or other players get hit in the pocket when other mega rich celebrities or mp's wont and dont get the pressure by the general public.
Yes if the company they work for are using the furlough scheme to use taxpayer money to pay other employees on £12 per hour.
You're ignoring the point I am making. If a company / club furlough staff earning average wages yet continue to pay other staff £100k per week then I have a problem with the moral compass within that company.
Exactly, they continue to get paid, while the staff running the club get furloughed, that’s the issue.
The furlough scheme is nothing to do with football players, if my understanding is correct. It's those doing social media, selling tickets, working in the club shop, washing the kit, and other things which are not the job of 'professional footballer.' I've already said I think Liverpool are disgusting for doing it to their non-playing staff, but they are a disgusting club anyway. And, yes, if van Dijk has to take a pay cut it will doubtless help to pay the club's admin staff but I'd not be surprised if an organisation as appalling as Liverpool had the players take a pay-cut only to furlough their other staff anyway. My point, really, I guess, is about the media who always pick on the same old targets. Why a footballer and not Rita Ora, or Ant and Dec, or Gary Lineker, or whoever presents the Radio One breakfast show, or Idris Elba, or... you get the point.
add his travel and let’s call it £300 a day £72k a year if he gets enough work, not just before tax, but before overheads too. maybe he’ll get much more work and double that, still not close to Boris, your average L1 footballer, someone working in the city etc.
