Just been watching a programme on dementia in football and footballers from a few decades ago. One of the players mentioned was our old centre forward Jimmy Robson. My recollections of Jimmy is that he was our equivalent of Spurs' Alan Gilzean in style and looks. Best wishes to Jimmy and especially his family in tackling this dreadful illness.
Was our number 9 the first time I ever went to Oakwell (Easter Monday 1968, 3-0 v Brentford, during the promotion season). I think he must have had a thing about playing for teams beginning with 'B' - Burnley (79 goals in 202 games), Blackpool (13 in 63), Us (15 in 87) and Bury (3 in 103). Already 29 when he joined us, but gave good service.
Agreed mate, best wishes to Jimmy and his family. As an aside I love seeing these photos of our old players, so thank you for that
One of his claims to fame is that he scored the 100th goal in a Wembley Cup Final. Won a Championship winners medal with Burnley in 1960.
