    We have a history of developing great defenders- going back to the likes of McCarthy when I first started attending. Tiler et all have come off the conveyor belt or been developed by the club - few strikers to come through the ranks but loads of defenders ...

    Hecky mentioned it at the season ticket holders' meeting a few weeks back. They've identified the issue, but Paul said these things can't be changed overnight.

    Interesting post.

    When I was coaching I meet up with Mark Smith and Colin Walker at Rushdon and Diamonds on an FA Coaching event.

    Walker told me that before Smith joined the academy they never focused on developing defenders. Things have changed for the better.
