Think I’ve rattled ‘em with my Twitter complaint that the show is getting irritating. Thing is, I used to listen to it all the time. Now I have to turn it off. Same thing / people over and over. Gone downhill. In the words of Brian the Miller. “Am I wrong?”

Had to turn off @footballheaven @RadioSheffield. Same callers night after night getting far too much air time. Becoming a total bore fest. Used to be a great listen, I know so many who no longer tune in and sadly it’s become an irritation. Shame.
— Fiona Hall (@FionaBFChall) May 5, 2023

You're not wrong about it being the same callers making the same tired old points over and again. I don't think they're rattled though and to be fair if those people are the only ones calling there's not a lot they can do about it.
Good for you and I agree wholeheartedly. I never listen to it live. On the BBC player is best then FF past the boring repetitive bits. So from "Good evening and welcome to another Football Heaven" to the end tends to be less than ten minutes for me. Presenter Giddings compounds the whole thing with his bizarre phrase ".....too as well" as in "you'll be hearing from (whoever) too as well". I can't believe that his staff haven't picked him up on it by now, but clearly they never do.
They blame people who don’t call in. So basically if you don’t call in you can’t have an opinion. What if you don’t feel confident to go on live radio? Not allowed to have an opinion?
I've listened a lot recently, and the banter between the presenters id something I've quite enjoyed. It's obvious they are all close mates, having normal conversations, except on the old wireless. However, the only way to make it less cliquey is for more people to call in.
Even when new people do call in they are cut off after a minute, or maybe two, while the regular "stars" get over five minutes each and sometimes close to ten. As soon as the buffoon from Rotherham opens his mouth I am hitting the forward button and cannot believe how long it takes me sometimes to get to the end of his spot. The Pitsmoor Owl gets less but is equally irritating. I don't mind the other long-winded Owl - Mick from somewhere - at least he talks some sense most of the time and often compliments Barnsley and our success this season.
Very unprofessional response from their bloke, quite bizarre that he would argue with a listener like he did with you on Twitter. It's clear to most listeners that there are a few "regulars" that are over exposed. Their guy fails to grasp your point at all.
No but if only 10 people call in then they will only air the calls of 10 people. The question you need to ask them is do they air EVERY caller or are some left off the show due to time constraints. If they air every caller and it's only the regulars who call in then we, as non-callers, can't exactly complain that they are only airing the ones who do. If however they are prioritising their regulars over others who miss out that's different.
By the same token If they only have 10 callers = their problem If I am not a caller = not my problem maybe their problem. If they are losing listeners due to lack of variety of calls = definitely their problem and definitely not something I should be held accountable for!! Rob Staton appears to be saying that if I don’t call in I am responsible for their mess!!
It’s a stupid argument because you don’t want to listen to yourself. So, even if you took him at his word and called in, it wouldn’t improve the show for you at all as you’d just have yourself, who you obviously don’t want to listen to, and just the exact same line up as usual.
I agree with that but why would they? It's the BBC, ratings aren't important to it as it's guaranteed funding regardless
Radio Sheffield as a whole is going down the pan I mainly only listen early and used to think Toby Foster was a worthy successor to Tony Capstik but these last couple of years he's just got worse and worse. He mumbles so it's difficult to decipher what he's saying and him and his two colleagues are like kids in a playground.
I’d argue that you could complain that the show only has 10 callers and isn’t sustainable. Obviously they have more, but Rob Staton seems to be absolving responsibility from attracting more listeners and blaming people like me who want to listen to local radio without necessarily taking part in live radio. I’d love a job where you can blame customers for your short falls.
Don't listen to it, but randomly decided to listen to 20 minutes of it earlier. Best bit was a Wednesday fan moaning about their position, saying Darren Moore won't get them promoted via playoffs & that he wants Mark Robins as their manager. What actually goes through their heads? They really are delusional. Why on earth would he leave play off (almost confirmed) chasing Coventry to drop down a league to a very, very, very, very, very old Wednesday side? They seriously think they're Man City, don't they?
