So my credit score has taken a huge hit as it's now come to light that my flatmate forgot to settle a water bill when we moved out.

I recently checked via Noddle and it was there that I discovered exactly what's happened. I immediately contacted Anglian Water who clarified the situation at the previous address and confirmed they had no forwarding address for the bills so neither of us were aware.

It's now being resolved but my question is, is there anything I can do to fix/improve this? I appreciate technically I'm jointly liable as it was in my name but he had paid every hull over the previous 3 years

Okay, so what have they registered in your credit file? A CCJ? A default?

The only people that can update your credit record regarding a specific debt are the company themselves; so it's down to how they see it really. However you can get a note added to your credit file to explain what happened with the debt, so anyone inspecting your credit file can see the reason your score has been affected and might overlook it. It will disappear off your credit file 6 years after it was added on but I appreciate that will be a while...
