Unusually good menu for a Friday afternoon. Time to take time out from lamenting the departure of one of our three best head coaches and lambasting our inept Board to look at the fayre on offer on ITV. In an effort to redeem my tarnished reputation (I'll be in The Garrison for farewells later if these all bite the dust):

    Newmarket
1.50 Platinum Star has the form in the book here and I take him against the untapped potential of Lazuli and Jamaheery. 9/4 generally.
2.25 Stylistique faces serious opponents in Final Song and Wejdan but she has good time figures and looks to have plenty of improvement left in her. 10/3 with Paddy.
3.00 Mustashry has a Group 1 to his name this year and looks to have more in his locker these days than Limato, who may be on the wane. 5/2 with Paddy.
3.35 A competitive fillies' Group 1 and classic trial. Love bids to give Aidan O'Brien a fourth win in six years in this and has already won at this level (Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh). 4/1 with Paddy.
4.10 First In Line disappointed at Haydock last time where the ground was probably too soft. But in the hope that Newmarket won't be too bad tomorrow, he remains a promising handicapper and his form at York the time before behind Hamish in a top class staying handicap bears close inspection. No certainty, but 8/1 with Paddy may just be screaming value.

    Chepstow

2.10 A Grade 2 novice hurdle which is one of the best novices' races this side of the Cheltenham November meeting. Plenty to consider, but Echiquier may just be something special. Nigel Twiston Davies' stable always comes alight early in the jumps season proper, and this thing won by 13 lengths easing up on heavy ground at Hexham. Step up in class here, but he had some proper form in France and has been purchased by the powerful Munir/Suede connections. 15/2 with Hills may be absolutely stonking value because this horse could be anything.

    York

3.50 See First In Line at Newmarket. Although Hamish was badly positioned last time over course and distance, he overcame that with a phenomenal staying-on performance in the closing stages, recording a very impressive closing sectional time. I thought he rated good value earlier when I got on at 3/1. He is only 15/8 best now but strikes me as the very likely winner of this.

As usual, £10 level stakes. Apologies to all taken in by this drivel - if this lot all hit the dust take reassurance that I will have probably lost more than you!

I think you have a good chance with most of those but in the 3.50 York I like the look of Navajo Pass at a price. Last two runs have been very encouraging. Sound each way chance for me Mr Kaht

Well my selection in the 3.50 was a great punt! Didn't see the race but must have run a shocker. Hamish was a good punt. A bit too short for me though

At 3/1 KCP it looked like the stuff of dreams. Did you see the race? Not often you can know you're on the winner four furlongs out. Not easy making money though, is it?
