If Wednesday and Rotherham somehow managed to muster enough to avoid relegation Sheffield Utd looking nailed on for relegation. Donny looking like possible promotion contenders ( and we just miss out on moving up to the Premier), Next season all 5 local teams would be in the Championship together. Surely that would be a first.
Think we may have 4 teams as I think Rotherham will avoid the drop and Donny will come up through the playoffs.
I’d be honest, I’d enjoy it more if it were 4 and Wednesday dropped to league 1. The meltdown would be hilarious to see them in a league below teams like Barnsley, Rotherham and donny. Sign me up, I want to see this.
I don't like local derbies. Mentioned it before. It increases the number of fixtures you'd be happy to take a point. That's detrimental to the final standings in my view.
Don't think Wednesday have been in the 4th Division. The year before we were promoted to the 2nd division (1980), Wednesday, United, us, Rotherham, Chesterfield and Huddersfield were all in the same Division but Donny were in the 4th.
The first season back in the 3rd Division after promotion with Clarkey had both Sheff teams plus Rotherham and Chesterfield, but Donny were still in Div 4
Not to mention that, these days, local derbies are dour, scrappy affairs. The days where a derby game was a blood and thunder, all-out attacking display by both sides seem to have been been consigned to history. Sadly.
I don't think they have either Not quite. The 1979/80 season had us, Sheff U, Sheff W, Rotherham & Chesterfield (Sheff W got promoted) Huddersfield were in Div 4 and also got promoted, so: the 1980/81 season had us, Sheff U, Rotherham, Chesterfield & Huddersfield - when we got promoted with Rotherham (and Charlton) Donny were Div 4 and got promoted the same season 1980/81, so we never played them. The next time we would play Donny, would be the 2004/5 season in League 1
We've more chance of playing Sheffield FC in the league next season than we have Sheffield Wednesday.
Wednesday NEARLY made the drop to the Fourth Division but just managed to avoid it. It’s funny now listening to them saying “this is the worst I’ve seen over 50 years” etc etc. I think that period was worse for them and their “loyal fans” were deserting them in their thousands.
