Don't know much about the lad. Just wondering why he's considered surplus to requirements at Pompey. This isn't any sort of veiled dig, I'm genuinely curious.
From what I know from looking online etc. Their gaffer plays one up top and they always use Pitman up top so his chances have been very limited since the current manager took over. When he does play he comes off the bench for a short cameo up top or plays out wide. He doesnt start out wide as thats not his best position and they also have Jamal Lowe at the moment who is a great winger for this level. That is all I know, very limited I know but its what I have seen.
As above, he’s never got a go as the one up top, ironically Pompey have played 442 last couple of games but as a rule jacket plays 451 He’s a s quick striker who looks a nightmare to play against mainly being an impact sub for Pompey, who knows what he can do for 90 mins as he’s hardly had a start
Bit worrying if he ain’t played many 90 mins we need someone that can slot straight in ,doubt if he could.
Poor goal scoring record I suspect. When you are playing one forward a 1 in 6 record isn’t good enough.
Looks to me would be a great signing for the u23s to bring on in time. Unconvinced you would want to put him in as your first choice. A lack of physique may also limit him playing as a lone striker ( for Portsmouth).
That's why I thought Christian Doidge might be a better bet, down to game time.. Been scoring for fun in league 2 ad maybe better all rounder than Chaplin. Scores a variety of goals, headers, tap ins, longer range, pens... Remember him scoring for Forest Green at Wembley, peach of a goal..
The fact that you felt the need to say this speaks volumes about the current state of this forum. Don't know anything about the lad either but can't see why we would want someone who can't get in Portsmouth's first team. Maybe he is a rough diamond and we have spotted something in him.
Possibly "horses for courses". If clubs didn't take gambles or didn't see potential there'd be no transfer market.
I've been doing a bit more research (not very much) and it seems that he wants to leave rather than Pompey wanting to get rid. That would make sense if he doesn't fit into their system, gets played out of position etc.
I,d like to see them go for someone like che Adams think he would be ideal. Too much of a gamble this lad from forest green.
We've sold a very good League 1 striker. Chaplin is good but nowhere near as good as Bradshaw. We need Chaplin to come in but another who knows what it takes in the Championship as well.
I hope our new striker is of the same standard and quality in his position as Kenneth Dougall. We've set the bar high, in my opinion, with this lad, so it's a big ask.
It's odd though , why would an untried inexperienced young player want to leave Portsmouth playing in front of 17,000 ?
I think that's the point, he's not been playing very much. Maybe he thinks he's got more chance of playing in the first team here, or at least away from Portsmouth, who play one up front.
Chaplin joined Portsmouth youth system when he was around six years old apparently. Kenny Jackett is determined to bring in his own players and unfortunately Conor's chances are going to be limited the way that Jackett likes to play. For that reason, the player himself feels it's time to move on. He looks to fit our profile. He's an out and out attack minded player, he's 21 years old and whilst he couldn't be described as prolific in the four seasons he's been involved at first team level, he's scored 24 goals in 104 appearances.
I wonder if the board got their opta-stats from Soccerbase about Chaplin. It reads there as though he has scored 22 goals from 31 games, but those are games he started. He has played 102 games if you include the substitute appearances, from which he has scored a good clutch of his goals. An impact sub, no doubt, but we also need one more striker through the door, ideally tomorrow.
