Liverpool fans late into the match Liverpool fans attacked by roaming gangs of locals carrying knives and mugged local police turning a blind eye then laying into them instead of their attackers. Sounds a lot like a match I went to in the early eighties when it was the scousers attacking us reds fans one foggy night in Liverpool. What goes around comes around.

Let’s see what comes out of the inquiry as to what caused the problems ,
Obviously there’s trouble causes that have been to the match and it’s an English thing not a Scouse or a Manc or Cockney thing and until we grasp that it’s a nationwide thing which I’d suspect most of us have and stop finger pointing at different regions or teams .
A Nobs a Nob irrespective of which part of The Country he’s from .

I didn't say the Liverpool fans caused the problems on Saturday. I was just pointing out they were having the same experience as many away fans have had when visiting Anfield as anyone whose old enough to remember that trip in the early eighties will tell you.

But you did say what goes around comes around which you have missed off this quote- usually means people get what they deserve - that seems like you are apportioning the blame to me! ( Yes I was at Anfield in 82 by the way!)

So was I - in the Barnsley end and speaking personally I had no problems at all - but I wasnt late arriving as I was living in Liverpool at the time so didnt get stuck on the M62

Of course any gangs attacking late arriving opposition fans are just thugs, not Liverpool fans as the actual fans would be already in the ground

Is the OP saying that because in the early '80's there were problems with gangs of yobs in Liverpool that Liverpool fans deserve to get attacked by gangs of yobs in France

The ones who attacked late arrivals may not have been "fans" but as the Liverpool sections weren't full they may have been the ones attacking reds fans after the match and the buses on the way out of Liverpool were definitely Liverpool fans. No I'm not saying they deserve it I'm pointing out that people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

You realise that it was over 40 years ago, right?

Basically, some young kids, women and decent fans deserved pepper spraying, in the face, by French police on Saturday because 40 years earlier, some young Liverpool fans, who will now be in their 60s, bricked Hoggy’s bus windows.
    I think that is the point….. I think, anyway……

I think he's saying: because there was some trouble when Barnsley went to Anfield 40 years ago, the Liverpool fans shouldn't complain that the French police gave them a good kicking at the weekend.

And they got their own back big style in Barnsley On both occasions in the 80's - league cup and the quarter final of the Fa cup Remember their fans being bricked walking across the bridge in the station and fans being chased through the town centre and beaten. Nobody deserves this after what happened 40 years ago - half of these who suffered on Saturday wouldn't even have been born then!!
