Last time I looked in the local press there was all sorts of talk of restrictions on parking in the village being introduced. Driving through today, it looked like little had changed, save for some entirely reasonable white lines outside people's drives. Did they scrap the more restrictive parking measures? I can understand if so, because to funnel everyone into the official car parks would probably have overwhelmed them at weekends or in the summer months. I'm interested in what has gone on here.
Plenty of parking around the village on a weekend. We never pay. Would do my head in if i lived there though, must admit.
The Council did everything it said it would, per the approved planning notice and associated plans. In addition to the white lines that now (hopefully) prevent people from blocking driveways/accesses, there are several areas where new double yellow lines have been added. These prevent parking in trouble spots, which would otherwise increase the risk of accidents or cause obstruction, especially for buses. The double yellows can be seen, amongst other places: near the village green; around the antique shop corner; and near the bus stop at the bottom end of The Park (the road that takes you from the village to the park, via the old folks' bungalows). I'm not sure if there were other measures originally planned. I know it's still possible to park for free in the village and walk into the park - my wife and I do that two or three times a week, although we avoid weekends. Plus, there has to be a certain amount of free parking anyway, if only for the parents dropping off their kids at the village school.
