https://www.westbromnews.co.uk/2021...ismael-should-be-worried-about-west-brom-job/ Grass isn't always greener. Stuff going on at West Brom behind the scenes...
I read that earlier. I'm not sure what inside information he's got, but it seemed spurious to say the least.
Putting two and two together, comparing it to one of his former clubs (Wednesday) and making 627. It is strange that they have been rejected by other manager's if the package is so attractive. It's a bigger job than I think some people think to get them back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
I've no doubt Ismael will back himself, and its undeniable its a bigger opportunity for him. It's impossible to know for sure but it seems the Technical Director may have been a block in previous deals. That he's gone and the CEO is responsible would suggest they've got someone more able to sign off on things. It seems to have happened quite a bit this summer with clubs getting close to naming a manager/coach and it then falling through. Tottenham, Palace, Everton, Blunts and West Brom all had varying degrees of it (and reasons).
Yes, it's a strange old summer, even before pre-season has even started. If Ismael does go, I guess it's better to be in our position and giving a new coach as much of a pre-season as possible to evaluate the squad and maybe get in a couple of last minute transfers to supplement it as they see fit. I'd rather do it now, than 5 games in like last season.
Absolutely agree on the point of coach. Just a really poor time to lose your CEO though. If Ismael does go, we need to get the right appointment quickly. Otherwise we'll have a new coach trying to teach his system to the players while live games are going on. It can be done, but you'd rather have pre season to be able to work on things.
Think Val is big enough to take on any undermining factions at West Brom , who is going to argue with him !!
The owners of WBA have a certain S6 odour about them. They want to get promoted on the cheap, and keep the profits from parachute payments. They're now onto their 4th choice, doesn't sound like a great place to go. Of the teams who've gone down you can see the blunts want to go up again. Fulham we'll see but their chairman is pretty ambitious but makes spontaneous rash decisions (see Jacksonville).
Take off Johnstone and Pereira from WBA's current squad and it leaves a very average championship group of players.
Maybe Palmer is talking out of the top of his head, but it does seem clear that Appleton would rather stay at Lincoln and Wagner has run off back to Germany - so Val is at least 3rd choice for some, I remember old Danny Wilson's quote when he went to follow his dream at the DeeDahs "I don't care if I was 100th in line" - that turned out well didn't it?
I'm going to say it. If/when he does go there i doubt very much he will replicate with West Brom this season what he did with us last season. He will just be healthier in his own bank balance.
He will, but if/when he's not in the top 6 by Xmas they'll panic and sack him and where does he go from there, will he made for life? I doubt it, u earn big, u live to your income and he's a young bloke, young family, who's gonna take him on 1 flukey ( less than) a season with us and a few months failure at an ex Prem club. He'll be back home or in L1. Far better another season with us, give it another shot and then go, with a much enhanced rep, to a bigger club, or we're in the Prem. Imho.
I’m pretty sure there are break clauses for those scenarios these days. He won’t just get all the money he would have got if seen out five years on original deal
Carlton , Carlton.... can we not knock it! Saw Cartlon walking the streets of Monaco, was gonna ask him to knock it , but thought better of it!
