Saves a few quid this…… Derbyshire Wayfarer Ranger The Derbyshire Wayfarer Ranger gives you one day of unlimited bus and rail travel in Derbyshire and also includes travel nearby cities outside Derbyshire including Burton-on-Trent, Leek, Macclesfield, Sheffield and Uttoxeter. This pass costs £12.60 for one adult (plus one child under 16), £6.30 for a senior citizen (aged 60 or over) or a child (aged under 16) and £23 for a family/group ticket that gives up to two adults and three children unlimited bus and rail travel (a dog can travel in place of a child with this ticket). An extended version of this ticket, that allows you to travel from Nottingham or Beeston, is also available. The Derbyshire Wayfarer Ranger (from Nottingham and Beeston) costs £17.30 for adults and £8.65 for children.
Looks like the price has gone up slightly, £14 for adult. Only £7 for us oldies, it would make sense for me to come up on the train on saturday for £7 return to Sheffield (from Burton) plus £5-off return from Sheffield to Barnsley. Cheaper than driving.
What's not to understand, it's £16.27 for 2 and 2/3 adults so long as you travel with a dog and a lobster. But goes up to €23.11 if its a thermodor lobster.
This is why I always get ripped off whenever I use trains. I just get on it, tell them where I want to go and pay whatever they tell me. Also why I very rarely use trains.
Having just read the web site again it says it can only be used if travelling to or from a Derbyshire station. So technically Sheffield to Burton isn't allowed . Mind you, there are only a few through trains, you usually have to change at Derby so that makes it ok. Alternatively, you could always get off at Willington and walk down the Trent and Mersey canal (3.8 miles)...
Several stations outside Derbyshire are allowed including Sheffield and Burton - but it says You can also use the Wayfarer ticket to travel between Derbyshire and Sheffield city centre, Burton-on-Trent town centre, Macclesfield town centre, Leek town centre and Uttoxeter town centre on direct journeys to and from Derbyshire. To me this says that any journey must start or end in Derbyshire... I don't see how that can be enforced though.
And that is now likely to get you a fine for non-payment. Tickets should be purchased in advance unless there is a good reason - ticket machine not working - but even then a conductor in a bad mood would insist you should have bought online while you were waiting. If you do travel by train, book in advance on an App (Trainline, or the TOC apps, etc) or use the machine/ticket office at the station.
I’ve used this before going to Burton…..go to ticket office on Sheffield station on the day….ask for wayfarer ticket…..change at derby……easy
For anyone considering buying one of these Wayfarer tickets in the future, they have changed the details this week so that the £14 adult ticket no longer includes an additional child. The child would need their own £7 ticket.
