They have an average crowd of 11000 very similar to us, and they've just agreed a fee with Peterborough for ivan toney for around 10 million with add ons, crazy money
They have a knack of selling their best players and replacing them with players just as good, for less money. It's what we're trying to do, but from what I understand, they invest a lot of money into a huge scouting network they have. They paid £10m for Pinnock and Janssen last summer, but made more than that from the centre half they sold to Bournemouth. They also sold Neil Maupay to Brighton for £20m. They've signed Charlie Goode from Northampton. Rumoured to be for £1m. He's a cracking player by all accounts. I bet he's worth considerably more next summer.
Those sales will just about cover this years debt, soon be curtains for them if they continue to fail.
this is what I was trying to state a few months back. Brentford do the spreadsheet model correctly, we do it in poundland. if your recruitment is better it enhances team performance and increases sales. it was argued back they’ve spent 100 million quid, the squad they have and ongoing sales are worth far more however.
The two things are separate: 1) They have made a profit buying and selling players 2) They owe their owner almost £100 million The benevolent dictatorship model of football ownership is bad* * Ask Wigan
I think he's clearly a much improved player since he left us. And I actually think he did a decent job for us. Expect him to get 15-20 goals in that team. Whether that's worth 10 mil is debatable.
whilst I agree in principle, clubs should be only spending what they have. surely they don’t owe the owner 100 million if they’ve raked in 80 million pounds of sales? Unless he’s done something funky with that cash? the wage bill at Brentford isn’t cheap and blows ours out of the water, but the fact still remains (for now) they recruit better, play better and subsequently sell better.
If they get promoted It'll be worth it If they don't... Just can't think that Selling Watkins and getting Toney is their answer to getting promotion Assuming they sell Watkins if course, but that looks like what they are doing. Then there's rumours about Benrama, who they are reputed to be selling as well
He's not as good as Watkins I agree. But I think Benrahma might be a bigger loss. Manager seems to have something about him though so still expect them to be up there.
I'm actually quoting old figures; so, apologies for that. But, as you stated, I think it's the principle that is important (at least for the most part). If their owner says, I want the debts back, they are knackered. According to football finance world:
