Was just having a look at the line ups v Preston to see if Potts was playing, and surprised to see Brentfords team.

They've really gone down the foreign route. Vast majority of the starting line up and subs are from abroad.

Yeah hopefully we won't go down that route like we did under Davey to varying degrees of success. I hope to see a few more academy lads in and around the team.

Notable that they haven't done as well this season. Last year they almost got into the playoffs.

With a new ground and a squad full of foreign signings they'll be like a different club.

I would imagine that the directors will be looking to use the methodology used at Barnsley to recruit British players and extend this methodology to cover Europe and then other parts of the world.
Having a German manager greatly helps with this.

Barnsley could become the shop window of players from abroad wanting to get into English football.

I was opening postal votes (officially) with a Brentford ST holder last week. From what he said, they have a similar policy to ours. Bring in young players develop them and sell them on for a profit to balance the books. By all accounts they are still interested in Pinnock who is a London lad. My view is that Ethan is out of their price range.

If we'd stayed down I think Brentford could well have been an attractive destination for Pinnock. As things stand, I very much doubt he'd go there. Even if he was homesick for London, I would have thought Fulham would be a far more likely destination.

I'm glad we're us and not them. The idea of little Brentford punching above their weight is laughable.

Can see them having a meltdown if they don't get to the prem.

Patronizing post. Barnsley are 'massive' then are they?

Potts - has he been injured for a bit? Not seen him in matchday squad for a while.

I'm sorry? I'm not with you.

If you mean I'm being patronising you're completely wrong. I'm pointing out that Brentford, who many see as a little club in the championship, which they are comparatively, aren't the subject of some fairy tale. They've actually got themselves into considerable debt to get and stay there.

If that's the case then I misinterpreted your meaning. Apologies.

Thought so. Like many, I’ve been following his progress and noted for prob 8 weeks he’s been missing.

All things being equal, he’d have been missing for us too - although I know it doesn’t work like that

Brentford has been using a similar methodology for possibly longer than we have Nudge. They have a huge recruitment team.

    ttps://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/how-moneyball-tactics-put-brentford-in-contention-for-the-premier-league-but-doomed-their-manager_sto4718774/story.shtml

They seem to have swung from targetting foreign players to british and back again however.

Just think if they get relegated next year . Could be the straw that breaks the camels back . Are they moving to a new stadium ? Maybe the sale of the old one might cover the debts .

Yeah they're moving. New stadium has a capacity of 17500 so room to improve ticket revenue, but only if they're doing ok.

The link I posted is a few years old so maybe they've cut their losses with player sales, but I I think they're still walking a tightrope.

Their current gates are around 10000, so they can't be even covering the wages from gate receipts.

Weren't gate receipts a relatively minor part of income for most clubs, especially when you start getting higher up? TV income and sponsorship is where it's at nowadays.
