For a number of years, probably at the end of the 1970's and into the 80's ,the Boxing Day ,dinner time session at the Grey Horse became a bit of a festive, "Must do" for me. Crammed and packed pub, cripplingly loud clubland tenor, Celebrity attendance in the form of Stan Richards on keyboards and Christmas jokes. Me invariably ending up completely wasted and written off for the rest of the day! Ah? Great days. Was it just the Grey Horse or was it a Barnsley thing?
We used to pick a village every year and normally work our way into town for the night. Normally hammered. Remember one year getting a ribbing cos i landed on the cheap round in the club up monk bretton so bought whiskey chasers andthat became the norm for the rest of the day. Ended up in the warren and knocked a vase over the lot playing pool. Messy lol.
Boxing day was always a traditional piss up day for me meet the lads in Ward Green Club early doors taxis organised, into town til cant talk o'clock, back to club to stare at a pint for about an hour, home to a deaf n dumb supper, bed, sorted. Happy days.
Can’t remember going in the Grey Horse on Boxing Day but spent a lot of time in there during my teens , mid 70’s . One memorable New Years Eve when we had to abandon tarn after an unfortunate incident with a shop window and a trip to Becketts A&E
