Attended the game. As usual sat amount the Boro fans, who were all in one stand so it was somewhat crowded. They tend to be very ‘big boned’. One of the very few times I’ve been at the Riverside when it hasn’t been minus five, blowing a gale and raining horizontally. The weather was so nice it nearly made up for what was a dreadful game of (allegedly) football. Having made my usual snarky comment, it was still enjoyable to walk out of an away ground with a win. Very novel (there I go again - just can’t help it). Boro we’re awful - although they did have a considerably changes team. We were also dreadful though I can’t work out yet whether the 11 who stated are that much weaker than those they replaced. However ‘to be fair’ it’s only 11 Aug and we won’t really know the quality of this squad until the end of October. As for tonight (yesterday) I thought Anderson stood out. He clearly gives a toss and got in some great tackles. We didn’t look particularly solid at the back though even though we were playing a very rigid back five. Any decent team would have punished us tonight. But it’s still up at the top of the field where my worries are. I just can’t see where the goals are going to come from to make us in any way competitive. Still time I suppose and after all the good stuff, and the huge potential in Duff, I hope the Club can back him. If not, I think, at best, we’ll just struggle and at worse, we’ll struggle and play a ‘style’ of football that will empty Oakwell double quick. Anyway onto Saturday and the newly renamed Derby County. Good to have them back.
