Getting sentenced at 3 pm. You can read a bunch of tweets about it here.....

He could get up to seven years in prison. I can't see him avoiding jail time but I think he should. He would be of better use doing things out of jail than him costing money to be locked up with murderers and the rest. He's done wrong so use him on the outside to pay off debts, educate through charity work etc.

What a waste of a prison place without parole as well. Give some charity work to do and give him the chance to pay stuff back. He's no good stuck inside at a cost not earning himself.

While the taxpayer subsidies their wage bill to facilitate paying slave wages, forcing hard working people to claim benefits to keep their heads above water. And people still vote for this and the slow destruction of the NHS. Outrageous!

After watching it on the BBC news, the main talking point for me was, how good does Annabel Croft still look!

It's always been the case that money crimes are more severely dealt with than physical assaults.

There is another "Boris" I have a problem with & it ain't Boris The Spider.

That said I have no sympathy with Becker I'm afraid. Always liked him as a player back in the day, but he has clearly ripped off a lot of people. Hope he can turn his life round.

I agree. we should let every tax avoider off the hook and not bother with penalties for breaking the law.

We should let billionaires do what they like, lawful or not. We should not look to close loopholes on tax, and encourage miscreants to avoid tax by making it known that they won't end up in jail if they behave criminally.

And finally we should tell lies about what sentence they actually get.

The man is a fraudster. You need to stop hero worshipping celebrities it's, if it was an average guy from Barnsley who had stolen money off many people (which is essentially what he's done) then you would want him locked up but because he's a famous person you don't think it's fair to lock him up. Well I do.

The 2 aren’t exclusive. I’ve no problem with the way Becker has been sentenced it’s the others I have a big problem with. Guessing Beckers mistake was not donating a few thousand to a certain political party

Using his celebrity status as someone not locked up would have been better than the cost of locking him up with hardened criminals. Outside he could have looked for paid opportunities which would get his debts sorted quicker. He could have been given a huge amount of community service hours helping charities. It's easier to rehabilitate his stupid behaviour on the outside being watched than rotting in a cell for the next 15 months and then coming out when he'd have less opportunities available to sort out his problems.

Could the same not be said for anyone else too? He got a slap on the wrist and warning in Germany and did it again didn't he?

I can't believe some of the comments I've read on here about this. Let's get one thing right. 90% of people who go bankrupt do so reluctantly and endure a life event with shame and take a long time to recover. The other 10% view it as a tactic to side swerve legitimate debts for financial gain. They leave in their wake destabilised companies putting businesses and jobs of ordinary people in jeopardy. Becker fitted into the latter category to some tune. He had numerous chances to square matters and always "gamed" it to his own advantage.
I surmise what has been said that he WAS good at sport should also be extrapolated to the other Boris. He's good at politics so he should be let off too??? No, I don't think so but you guys saying celeb status should somehow be a get out of jail card free, give your heads a wobble. The offences against the Insolvency Act are there to strengthen the insolvency regime so the public can have confidence in it. Celebs who abuse the system should feel the full weight and rightly so as a public reaffirmation no-one is above the law and the system does work
Also a couple of people have mentioned the cost of keeping him in prison.
The only reason he was dealt with here is because his slick and doubtless expensive lawyers suggested he commute his bankruptcy here as we have a more benign bankruptcy regime than Germany. Something he could only do due to EU rules. Something he couldn't do today as Brexit ended bankruptcy tourism (it was a thing)
