What on earth is going on there it’s absolutely shambolic and I hope Struber can start addressing defending set pieces and work on our organisation.

Any footballer is told get goal side of their man.
Bradley Dack is stood on his own unmarked. Radlinger can see him Diaby can see him why are they not screaming at sibbick to drop back and get goal side? And more importantly why is sibbick not looking over his shoulder as he’s 5 yards higher up than everyone else he should be looking to see if everyone else is marked up making him the spare man. This goal was totally avoidable but week after week we leave the opposition unmarked its complete madness!!!

It’s amateurish stuff the sort of organisation you see watching Sunday football we’ve only conceded a handfull of good goals this season the rest have been handed to the opposition on a silver plate.

Looking on the bright side this is something we can work on at the training ground but we’re desperately missing a leaders at the back who barks out orders and gets everyone marked up.

Sibbick seems lost when defending dead balls, this wrong side of his man is something that happens regularly with him. That 3rd goal Doogs dunt cover himself in glory either.

Agreed. Defending set pieces has got to be the number one priority in training for the next month! It's cost us at least 12-15 points this season already...

It isn't set pieces, it's crosses. It just looks like set pieces because most set pieces result in a cross. Same from open play too though

We can't defend full stop. Set pieces or open play it doesn't really matter.

Oh so because it was sibbick I can’t raise the issue?? Strange response. I also called out Diaby and radlinger who should be telling him to drop deeper and mark up. Ultimately however you look at it they have a free kick where our players have time to position themselves correctly Sibbick is stood in no mans land and the man behind him who is unmarked ends up scoring. But oh it’s ok we can’t criticise someone when it’s clear for all to see.

Anything inside the six yard box should always be for the keeper.

I can only assume they're being told to not mark up, because to leave someone unmarked from a set piece/cross every single game is not even Sunday League level, it's under 5s.

I'm no expert tactician but it seems to me that zonal marking is costing us too many goals. That's not to say that we'd become scrooge like in defence if we switched to man-to-man marking.

Zonal marking + poor defending = a very leaky, disorganised defence.

If the players were told to mark man on man and to be within touching distance & goal side of the opposition we’d have so many more points on the board it’s that simple. The fact that it hasn’t been addressed in the last few months is ridiculous they have all week to work on these things I can’t get my head around it I really can’t something as simple as standing next to somebody you could teach it to class 1 pupils.

We get overloaded at the back post.

Any manager who watches videos on us will tell his players to overload our back post, as we can’t deal with it and ultimately always concede.

It’s not always a strict positional issue, but more of a mental and physical speed issue - to see the movement and react or pre-empt it. We don’t react quick enough and get chart out every time.

Every opposition manager knows this and exploits it.

Someone posted on the Futcher thread about how he organised and brought Tiler on and it made him a 1.5 million defender nearly 30 years ago. .. I'm boring myself now BUT the 1.5 million we've probably milked to get Struber and eventually pay DS off could have secured 2 or 3 Futcher types on 1~2 years. Helping us gain draws and wins and also develop the talented young team who'll help us get more points and ultimately get a better sell on value for been better players? Or is it just me ?

I think we all agree. Like Kevin Long did a few years ago.

Not sure of who we could have or could bring in though in Jan.

James Chester from Villa has to be worth a try on loan. Same situation as Matty James

Shouldn't have even reached Dack for the third, how has Dougall not even jumped for it? Even though he appears to be man-marking, there's no resistance whatsover. Ball should have been cleared. Understand what you're saying though, what followed was equally shambolic

They aren't good enough for zonal marking and that shows game after game, we never look like not conceding

Agree on Long. I'd also add Gibson (also Burnley), Hause or Chester or Konsa from Villa, Fuchs from Leicester or Vinagre from Wolves - none of whom have played more than a few minutes for their teams this season and all of whom would improve us and develop those around them. Never thought I'd say this because I think he's always good for a mistake but I'd even take Stearman as I think he's better than what we've got. In midfield I'd love James or Drinkwater. But more realistic options may be Besic or Gosling. Or maybe even Lansbury. None of these might be realistic - but you could say that for some of the loan players we had in the past such as James.

There are also others in the championship worth looking at.......
