[BFC SITE] TENNAI WATSON SIGNS FOR THE REDS

    Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Tennai Watson on a one-year deal.


    The 28-year-old arrives at Oakwell having most recently spent time with Charlton Athletic, making 19 appearances for the Addicks in a promotion-winning campaign from Sky Bet League One.

    Watson operates as a right-back, starting his career with Reading, making his debut in August 2016. After spells with AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons in League One, Watson made a deadline day switch to the Valley in September 2023, eventually making 61 appearances for Charlton, including in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

    Mladen Sormaz, Sporting Director, commented on the addition, “We’re very pleased to bring Tennai to Oakwell. He’s an experienced player at this level, with a strong track record in League One. His versatility and professionalism make him a great fit for our squad, and we’re confident he will add quality and depth to our defensive options this season.”

    Conor Hourihane, Head Coach, added, "Tennai is a player who knows what it takes to be successful in this division. He’s athletic, disciplined and brings a competitive edge that will benefit the whole group. We’re looking forward to working with him and integrating him quickly into the squad as we prepare for the remainder of the season ahead.”

    Watson said, “I’m buzzing, really excited. I’m really excited at the prospect. This is a big club with great fans and I can’t wait to get underway.

    “I spoke to the gaffer [Conor Hourihane]; he has a clear vision of how I can fit into things. It’s definitely somewhere that wants to achieve something, and that aligns with me and what I want to do.”

    Reading the club announcement it seems as though Conor is happy with this signing, and we already know he has said he only wants players who want to be here with the right attitude. That will do for me
