Fixtures Peterborough United Vs. Barnsley - Tue, Aug 19 2025, 19:45 Barnsley continued their good start to the 2025/26 campaign with a gritty one-nil victory against Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium on Tuesday night. The first attempt of the evening was courtesy of our hosts' skipper, Carl Johnston, who tried to curl one from range, but his effort sailed over the crossbar of Murphy Cooper inside the opening ten minutes. The Reds replied soon after with a threatening attack of their own, Adam Phillips playing in Caylan Vickers down the right-hand side, the Brighton loanee holding his run well to beat the Posh backline. His cross to the back post, aimed for the lurking David McGoldrick at the back post, was claimed by Vicente Reyes in the fifteenth minute. Phillips turned provider once again just five minutes later, advancing down the right and halting his progress to square for Patrick Kelly, who, on his full league debut, attempted to curl home, but his effort was also high and wide of the mark. David McGoldrick was the next to try his luck, Phillips once again providing for his fellow attackers and finding the Irishman in space, 20 yards out. First-time, the 37-year-old wrapped his boot around the ball but saw his strike go over the bar. On the stroke of half-time, the Reds made the initial breakthrough in the game. Dangerous for all of the opening half, Caylan Vickers danced his way through a crowd of Posh defenders and bent in with his left boot with the addition of a Peterborough touch on its way in. The Reds almost immediately doubled their lead, with Phillips dispossessing Posh high up the pitch and being allowed to creep forwards to the byline. He pulled back for Keillor-Dunn, who had the ball robbed from the end of his toe by Peterborough. From the resulting corner, Jack Shepherd directed goalwards and saw his effort cleared off the line. Another corner in quick succession eventually fell to McGoldrick, who acrobatically directed the ball goalwards but was just wide of the mark. Half-time: Peterborough United 0-1 Reds Looking for a quick response, the hosts began the second half brightly and struck the crossbar in the forty-eighth minute. Brandon Khela broke onto a bouncing ball inside the area and prodded onto the upright. In the fifty-eighth minute, it was the Reds' turn to hit the frame of the goal. A free-kick from 25 yards was rolled onto the left boot of Luca Connell by Phillips, the former rifling low and hard into the bottom corner. Posh 'keeper Reyes pushed the ball onto the post, McGoldrick looking to pounce and convert the rebound, but Reyes claimed well. Barnsley turned to the bench for the first time on seventy-four minutes, Jonathan Bland replacing Ogbeta as both teams began to tire. With five minutes of normal time remaining, the Reds shuffled the pack once again as Jon Russell entered the fray in replacement of Kelly. As the fourth official signalled eight added minutes, Reyes Cleary was introduced for goalscorer Vickers. In the seventh minute of additional time, Phillips had the chance to put the game out of Peterborough's reach after he was played through, but his powerful effort was stopped by Reyes. The Reds ground out a one-nil victory at the Weston Homes Stadium to continue an unbeaten campaign so far for Conor Hourihane's side.
