Fixtures Barnsley Vs. Burton Albion - Sat, Aug 09 2025, 15:00 Barnsley left it late to clinch all three points in our first home game of the season, David McGoldrick popping up from close range for his first goal. It was a poor start for the Reds, who conceded an early penalty; in just the second minute, a deep corner delivery from the away side caused trouble for the Reds, and David McGoldrick was deemed to have fouled a Burton player in the box by the referee. Jake Beesley stepped up coolly and converted from twelve yards to put the Brewers ahead early on. The Reds responded well to going behind, most notably through David McGoldrick; the forward man linked play expertly and provided a couple of mazy runs before delivering into the box, but there was nobody to tap the ball home. In the 35th minute the away side doubled their advantage; a ball in behind the Reds' defence found Fabio Tavares in space. Murphy Cooper came rushing out, but Tavares was first to the ball, nicking it past the goalkeeper to give himself an empty net to tap the ball into to make it 2-0. On the stroke of half-time, the Reds almost pulled a goal back; some neat, intricate play between Vickers and Phillips resulted in the former pulling the ball back to Davis Keillor-Dunn, whose powerful effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Jordan Amissah. Half Time – Barnsley 0-2 Burton Albion The Reds came out of the traps quickly in the second half as they looked to claw themselves back into the game. Davis Keillor-Dunn tried his luck from distance, but a deflection sent the ball sailing over the bar. Just moments later, Adam Phillips delivered a teasing ball into the box, where McGoldrick looked set to tap in, but some heroic Brewers defending kept the score at 2-0. In the fifty-sixth minute, the Reds’ second-half pressure paid off; some patient play resulted in Phillips cutting the ball into Vickers’ path, and the winger provided an excellent finish into the top corner on his Oakwell debut. It was complete Reds dominance, and in the sixty-third minute, it paid off, and Barnsley were level. Luca Connell attempted a curling effort from range; the Albion goalkeeper produced a fine save but only into the path of Keillor-Dunn, who finished the rebound to level the score. The Reds continued to push for the elusive third goal; Reyes Cleary looked a bright spark when coming off the bench, producing some dazzling runs as well as a couple of efforts that required some impressive work from the Burton shot stopper. In the dying embers of the game, the Reds clinched the third and what looked to be the winning goal. Once again, some patient, intricate play from the Reds resulted in Phillips smashing the ball across the box, and McGoldrick was in the perfect position to tap home from a couple of yards.
