It has been two weeks since the Reds returned to Oakwell for pre-season training as preparations for the new term got underway. One player, in particular, who is hoping to hit the ground running is Josh Benson, after the midfielder suffered a frustrating 23/24 campaign with injury issues. However, the 24-year-old is feeling sharp and is confident that his troubles are behind him as he gears up for a fourth season with the Club. “I’ve missed the last couple of pre-seasons through injury, so it was quite hard getting that fitness back,” discussed Benson. “But I’ve done a lot of training in the off season – I went away to Portugal and did a bit of training out there, and I’ve come back fit and raring to go. “I’ve been seeing a body specialist outside of football, back home over the summer. My legs are feeling really good at the minute, and I played 60 the other day [for our U21s] and I feel fine.” Benson’s talent has been there for all to see, especially during the 22/23 season when he flourished at the heart of midfield – most notably in the opening months where he wowed supporters with some spectacular goals. He is hoping to rediscover that form and consistency under Darrell Clarke in order to help the Reds enjoy a successful Sky Bet League One campaign. “I just want to get out there, play football and show what I can do, hopefully score some goals, be energetic and get on the ball,” he continued. “I want to go as far as I possibly can with my talent and start seeing it by getting in this team and hopefully staying in it and pushing on with my career.” Continue reading...
