Darrell Clarke states that Barnsley will “have to be at their best” in order to claim three points on the road at Crawley this weekend. Speaking to the press ahead of Saturday’s fixture at Broadfield Stadium, our Head Coach reflected on Tuesday night’s 1-0 win against Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup second round, stating he was incredibly pleased with the performance. “It was everything we want from our team. We were gritty at times, looked good going forward, and scored a really good goal, with a great move and a nice finish from Max [Watters].” Clarke was impressed with how the players had responded following last weekend’s draw at home with Northampton Town: “The players have taken on board what I’ve said about improving our game management in the last 20 minutes. Against Sheffield United, we managed the game incredibly well and saw the game out. It’s the response I want to see, and it shows we’ve got a consistent way of learning here.” The Reds’ Head Coach also expressed delight at last night’s third round draw, which saw Barnsley drawn against Manchester United at Old Trafford. “I’m really pleased, it’ll be a really good occasion and hopefully we take loads of numbers with us down there.” “We’re not just going for the day. We are going to put on a performance that gives our club credit, and we want to go and get the result at Old Trafford.” Darrell also spoke about Saturday’s fixture at newly-promoted Crawley Town, with the Reds’ Head Coach singling out this weekend’s opponents for praise. “Scott [Lindsey] has done a tremendous job there, and they have fitted into the league comfortably. As someone who’s won promotions, you get that initial momentum, you get that buzz, and sometimes things end up peeling away. But it is a competitive division, and we’re going to have to be at our best, with or without the ball, in order to get the result.” Continue reading...
Looking forward to Saturday. New ground to visit and after a good start, Crawley have lost their last two games in league and cup. I know we need a couple of strikers, but Watters two goals and overall performances come as an unexpected bonus for me and I wouldn’t be surprised if he scored again at the weekend. Hopefully another win and move up a few places.
