We all know how it works its been done a million times on here.Because the coach doesn't give anything away in a press conference doesn't mean theres nothing going off behind the scenes.
Poya tells the team what he wants. The recruitment team and Poya then go through player availability and stats etc.
Val explained at the last January window he wanted another striker and the recruitment team came up with 2 options.Val publicly stated he was happy whichever he got .The 2 players were Oblare and Dike.Oblare turned us down for reasons he gave when he did sign and we got Dike.
The way we work is no different to any other team in the league especially the Premier league.
To think the coach goes into training and theres an unknown player stood there in his training gear is fantasy at best, but for some its another stick to beat up the board with.

I think folk get it Brian, it's just when the head coach (Poya, this month) goes to the team with a shopping list, the team go out to Netto, and the frustration is that although that concept served us well in L1 (to a degree) there is a feeling that they need to shop in Waitrose in the Champ.
Not Harrods, not Fortnum and Mason .......... Waitrose.

Edit: Is Netto still a thing? Aldi if not.

Radio sheffield and rob staton said oulare and iseka were the work of conway off his own back and not "the spreadsheet"

Not all signings are guaranteed But we haven't done too bad considering. Collins,Helik,Anderson,Morris,Styles, etc all players who can easily play at this level.I wouldn't call any of them Netto signings, some others maybe.

Last time you said it was Doug O Kane. When asked the question the CEO said that the signings were data driven and went on at length in his praise for James Cryne.Oulare was definitely a target last January.
Recruitment and coach identify, the board finance and the CEO gets the deal over the line.
In the case of Oulare it apears James and his data may have let us down.Swings and roundabouts.

I know who i belive and i dont think oulare would be breaking any spreadsheet/data records looking at his previous career stats. If he was a target in January makes no diffrence again that could have been conway trying this signing.

Radio sheffild work closley with the club the ITK poster who posted on here also said same i belive.

I would say that Helik, Morris and Brittain were very good signings in terms of immediate impact, while Andersen, Collins and Styles all needed time to establish themselves at this level. I'd say Styles and Brittain also benefitted from playing outside Mowatt and James in the first half of last season, as confidence built up. They were also suited to a pressing style that has us on the front foot. Am not sure Styles in particular is the sort of player that can pick the ball up from the defence and keep the ball under any pressure.

Sadly, when we have a bad transfer window, we make it a really bad window.

I thought that the CEO had said that the aim was to have all signings based on the data, rather than confirming that they all had. Ritzmaier and Solbauer for example would've been direct Struber signings. There's a good chance that Dike was from Murphy's MLS contacts rather than the spreadsheet as well.

The biggest problem with the spreadsheet now is, it will have no idea what to look for, because we have no real identity to our playing style.

I honestly dont think a 26 year old who had played 26 games in 2 years before we signed him scoring 4 goals with a history of injuries been high on the spreadsheet so it rang true when other sources said he wasnt from the usual data analysis and was a conway signing.

It took styles a while to break through as hes been with us since he was 16 hasnt he?

I don't think anyone has ever suggested otherwise have they?

All people are wanting is maybe toggling the age of the spreadsheet up to around 28/29 rather than 23 and under (or whatever age Khaled stated we would not sign above).

Thouhht it was experience people wanted? Age and experience are two diffrent things in football. The main problem last window was not replacing mowatt or replacing hik with benson weak as piss had a loan spell with grimsby and just not good enough yet. In hindsight we should have gone for whiteman a year earler when we had the chance replacing mowatt before he left.

I've looked at the fixtures in January and unless we beat Blackpool and Birmingham it's going to be even more of a lost cause. I wouldn't sign anyone, take what we can for the players worth any money and play the under 23's.

But age and experience are diffrent you can have plenty of championship experience but still be 21/22 years old to get a player at 27/28 in the peak of their career at that age who would be a good championship player your talking a fourtune in wages and transfer fees money we dont have/wont spend.

I think we should give the fans a run out or the winner if the half time draw.

Of course - my initial post was obviously a little simplistic when I said 28/29 year old. And obviously we can't afford many of these, but our squad size is ridiculous. I'd rather have a smaller squad full of quality, rather than a huge playing staff full of any old Tom, Dick, Obbi or Remy.

I agree with the quality over quantity bit we seem to have gone back to the scatter gun approach of recruitment.
