Decent source that. No way we're taking a player on loan from another Championship team though just for development. I think we'll be linked with A LOT of players over the next five days. So little money flying about in the transfer market I can see teams across the country getting pretty erratic by the time the bell chimes on deadline day. I can't imagine transfer dealings are anywhere near close to normal right now. Spurs and Watford selling players for big money would help kick things on.
Was fantastic for Pompey in league 1 last year. Millwall recalled him in January and he got in their team for the rest of the year. pompeys season dropped off a cliff when he left
If the loan helps the rest of the team, then it will be worth it. Don't know enough about the player to comment if that would be the case though.
If any signing helps the rest of the team it will be worth it but only if no other option was available. Taking a squad player from Millwall for a season in the name of 'development' isn't progressive for me though. However, like you I've got no idea what he's like so could be a genius move. We'll see if it even happens before the end of the week.
It certainly wouldn't be progressive. I think we're past that stage tho at the moment, it's still only early days but with the state of the squad we are in survival mode already.
After four games, of which the Head Coach appeared to wave the white flag in the last one, I don't think it's survival mode yet. Not if we get, and it's a big if, the additional three players rumoured and don't move anyone on. The Boro game was a disaster where we didn't create anything and looked terrible at the back. Normally it's just the former, but a change of system from a new Head Coach could unlock more goalscoring potential.
I agree, it's not survival mode yet, not after only 4 games. Hopefully we appoint a new head coach soon and he gets his system working sooner rather than later. If we've gone 18 games without winning like last season, then that'll be the time for panic.
At 25 id hope its a loan to buy deal. Otherwise we should treat it like when we got Matty James, I. E. a quality player to help us out for a season and this guy will help us out. Likely be instead of Whiteman
Very good player and the heartbeat of Portsmouth....when he was recalled it was no coincidence their form slumped and they failed to get promotion. Id like to think we are interested in him.
Think it depends on the interpretation if what progressive is Loko. I'm sure our owners wouldn't see it as progressive because we're not developing future resale value but I think many fans would view getting a couple of loan signings who might help us to stablilise in the championship as a very progressive step. Not commenting whether Ben Thompson is such a player btw - more on the difference in interpretation between owners and fans.
Wasn't a blanket opinion of all loans not being progressive. Just this one in particular, which may or may not happen. I think a couple of season loan loans from the Premier League is exactly what we need if we're not getting the permanent signings that we want.
