Doing a first-class job for BFC. His media skills are excellent and he's clearly able to make things happen in the transfer/loan market. We are in very safe and professional hands with Ben Mansford and Maurice Watkins. I would imagine all our South Yorkshire rivals will listen/see what's happening at BFC and be tinged with jealousy.
They will .... But only if we climb the table. Signs are good, but it has to translate to the results or it's pointless. For now, I know a few deedars who are wondering why little Barnsley are making signings that Wednesday and united with their "huge" crowds can't seem to manage.
He speaks very well on deedaa. He's building up a new positive, open perception of the club, which has been eroded/destroyed over the years by successive team managers and club representatives with little or no media savvy. Breath of fresh air
Lets climb the table before we get too excited, it is good to have positive people in place. Under Don we were basically always told to expect the worse (relegation) and hope for the best (survival)...it got a bit boring but the end of season result was always better than the club would have us expect. It would be awful if we went down just as the new, more positive, board have come in - don't think they've said anything about having one of the smallest budgets etc etc but that doesn't hide the fact that we've been propped up somewhat this season by the transfer fees we've received. We need a good season this year to put a few more thousand season ticket holders in the stands next year.
Jedstar, agreed. What I like about the new Board is that they are much more positive in their presenting/communicating but are also sensible enough, not to have made any rash statements about our seasons target(s). Helps them manage expectation?
Got to agree, it looks as though Barnsley have the right men in the right places. I think that every one on this board, including myself, need to step back a little and judge the Reds middle of season. It's support time with a capital S.
There's a few Fritzls on here wondering the same.. http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/in...st-gates-in-the-division-why-cant-we-compete/ One dodgy Milan, there's only one dodgy Milan...
Interesting - in a schadenfreude stylee http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic/200579-only-what-im-told/page-2#entry4770940
Totally agree with the sentiment of this thread. Hopefully folks will be patient... things can't happen overnight.
Lol. Seems they are in a proper mess. Relegation this season will be the final nail hammered firmly in place.
What is their obsession with attendances all about? I've never understood that. Having higher attendances does create more revenue, however it also increases the costs. This is why they're not as well off in relation to us for example than they might expect. There's very little substitute for the revenue obtained from the sale of players, TV rights, advertising and investment, so why is having such a large attendance such a fixation for the two Sheffield clubs. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for Oakwell to be full every Saturday afternoon. But attendances certainly aren't the be all and end all, and they certainly don't give you more of a right to be in a certain division than another club. That's why I hope we can consistently pick up points like we did at the end of last season, to prove that money doesn't necessarily buy you success, but signing the right players, and playing in the correct way does.
Seems some Wednesday fans are not all fooled by their own hype! TorryOwl - "goes to show you need more than a big ground and decent fan base to be a big club "
