Second bout more severe than the first, kind of screws the herd immunity theory.
Worrying maybe you need to have a certain level of infection to get immunity?

They state he's caught the coronavirus twice rather than it laying dormant and coming back. First case in April, second case in June and he's recovered fully, thankfully

It goes onto say that reinfections are very rare and that there have only been a few to date (this article states another 4 times in Hong Kong, Belgium, Netherlands and Ecuador).

the last bit is worrying though:

"It is too early to say for certain what the implications of these findings are for any immunisation programme. But these findings reinforce the point that we still do not know enough about the immune response to this infection."

Most diseases you can catch twice, although it's rare in most cases.

I once got shingles in my 40s even though I'd had chickenpox as a child. At the time I never knew that you could catch the disease twice, but the doctor put me straight.

Shingles is a flare up of the Herpes Zoster virus that causes Chicken Pox - it lies dormant in your body until it is triggered (often by stress or other illness).

I had Chicken Pox twice as a kid.

I'm aware of over 10 cases that have had a second infection. A small majority were minor, but at least two (including the American mentioned) required ICU intervention.

I’ve always expected this strain of virus to hit more than once we shouldn’t be surprised.

Given the conservative estimate of world wide infections is around 38 million, a few cases of reinfecton is not a significant number. I've seen plenty of reports that any vaccine will probably require multiple doses to keep immunity up, so its no surprise that people's varying natural immune response will lead to varying strength of immunity.

The BBC article stated 5, but is it too early to tell if a trend is emerging?

    Outliers then, surely.

And if not then and we want to see it as a trend then we need to rethink our ability to live with the virus?

I've seen a couple of reports suggesting anywhere between 5 and 10 times more people have had C-19 and probably not even known about it due to some symptoms being so mild. That's getting close to half a billion people globally. Might be even more. Just look at some footballers and clubs staff who have tested positive with no outwardly symptoms. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

It’s long been suspected this would happen. A % of colds are caused by corona virus’s. Old uk research showed that the exact same cold Corono virus would reinfect the same subject year after year. For some reason the antibodies decay fast from these virus’s leaving folks susceptible to reinfection. When we get vaccine’s we will need regular boosters to maintain immunity.

Yeah, my mum got shingles in her late 50's. She's as tough as nails having had Type 1 diabetes since she was 11. She rarely gets ill and when she does she just deals with it, but she said that having shingles was one of the most unpleasant experiences of her life.

There is still hope Donald may die of it then, after he's kissed everyone in Florida.

given that he’s saying he wants to kiss and hug everybody at his rallies, he might finally be about to do good for mankind!
