Ive read a lot on bbs and not written anything or commented on what is on here, but now I think I wrote my thinking on our present set up. been a supporter for over 60 years and history does repeat itself, we got promoted to the premier with a different philosophy but eventually bankrupted the club.
The club was bought by the new owners to make money fact- look at Nice- nice little earner- you will not make money on supporters, sky, and all the other aspects- money will be only made on player transfers -which we have done successfully in the history of the club.
We as supporters do not like this, obviously, but it is a fact for club survival. Also how many over the last 2 years transfers have been because the players wanted out-Like us they want a good living- unlike us, their working life is very short. If a player can make more money by leaving- wouldn't we all want that. Take a look at their positions with other clubs- not many lighting up the night sky-.
Replacements -recruitment, was the defence shocking last year-after Roberts and co were sold-no= when Potts and bradshaw were sold was the midfield and attack crap -no- you lot bleat on about mowett and crawley gonna be sold in january- so what- if we are destined for league 1 we will need replacements- Do i agree with the board,s philosophy -can you tell me another 1 that keeps the club in a reasonable financial state- we are punching well above our weight in this division- 11000 gates says it all.
Stendel, Heckinbottom, both knew the board's position, but again, of the players sold how many wanted out, most of them. It was harsh but that is the board's position.
Replacements, We have no chance of procuring quality for championship players- transfer fees- wages are just not there -we have to look elsewhere , I agree that we need a couple of leaders with championship knowhow and i think so does the management, however you have to balance the books. How many of these youngsters will improve- well they have run the stats on them etc. What was mowett like, when he 1st came, Pinnock the same, Bradshaw same. We have to grin and bear it.
Looking to the future, our very young players are doing a good job in their respective divisions. We have top quality coaches at that level we can only hope that some will make the grade in the very near future

Lets just roll over and have our bellies tickled as well then while we're at it, in fact why even ask for a transfer fee? If they want to leave why not just release them from their contracts and let them go earn more money elsewhere?

And by the way we've not had below 12k attendance at home so far this season in the league so 11k gates are a bit wide of the mark.

Nothing wrong with the model if you just want to yo yo between leagues. I would like it to be more like property development, buy a starter hone do it up with profit then buy a semi, then a detached etc etc. Dont see why if Burnley and Stoke can be championship and premiership we cant eventually have another go at it.

I think a lot us accept the realities of the financial situation and grudgingly have to accept that the best we can currently hope to be is a yo-yo club.

However what we can not accept is the complete lack of respect for not thanking a man who provided us all with such a wonderful season. That is the big problem at the moment and I don’t care what went off behind the scenes and how bad the fallout was , to not come out and publicly thank Daniel Stendel for his hard work completely stinks.

This issue for me now makes all other debates about the strategy etc... seem completely secondary when basic human manners, compassion and empathy have been completely overlooked.

This " they want to leave " nonsense.....ive heard hundreds of stories (my dad was involved in football).....i just dont buy it.
If a player is contracted, the club holds most of the cards. Ahhh but they will poison the dressing room or go on strike etc
Or if the club has some balls they will make them train with the juniors. Thats happened loads and yes even now.....at other clubs.
Look at zaha at palace, he tried to force a move in the summer......hes still there last time i looked (despite all the he will do this that and the other and get his move).
The difference with our lot is we have either agreed to the players getting a move as soon as a decent offer comes in, or we just grab the first offer on the table.

It’s like a drug or getting drunk , the highs are great but the lows are stinkers and make you feel you wanna give up but the lure of another game drives you on ,
    As Robert Palmer once said
“Might as we’ll face it your addicted t’Reds”

I've begun to think players are probably looking forward to the exit door now from before they've even joined us. The Board's modus operandi actively encourages this. The danger for BFC as a club is we become nothing more than a doormat.

    Welcome OP. As a fan of 60 years standing you deserve respect. However, I think there are two main issues with the board, the Stendel matter aside and accepting fans aren't important to their business model;
Firstly, they don't seem to be living upto their declared intention to re-invest. Had moore been replaced with an upcoming £2,000,000 striker we would have been a lot happier. Yes, he'd have been sold too but for a lot more money and we'd have a watched an upcoming star for a bit.
Secondly, the over 24 rule is dogmatic. A couple of experienced players/older heads would make a world of difference to results and help develop the talent

yes but zaha isn’t in the last 12 months of his contract so the club do have the power there. Bit different what’s gone off with us apart from Moore.

Also CP have said give us one more year etc. Now I know the cry would be so could we, however the difference is clubs knowing Zaha is available will probably create a bit of an auction, whereas some like Moore the likelyhood is it would generate lower offers.

Not really always the case .
Most agents insist on a clause whereby a certain amount offered gives the player the option to talk to other clubs .

Welcome. 60 years support, is well ahead of my 44 years. You have seen us through thick & thin, which gives perspective.

I can't agree with all your post, but admire your positivity. Keep posting, we need a balance of views on the BBS & I fully respect what you have to say.
The club for me is at somewhat of a turning point & what happens in the next 3 months will tell us a lot about the current board. In reality none of us know what the future holds, we all pay our money & take the ride, or call it a day. I won't call it a day whatever happens this season, but I'm less positive than I've been for some years. I hope you are right & I'm wrong, as I love the club.

Made me chuckle. What a shame the man himself is no longer with us - wasn't he from this neck of the woods? I'm sure he'd have been happy to help out some fellow northerners and re-record it for a Reds tribute album :D

Anyway, I thought we could expand the idea a bit, so with my apologies Marlon for altering your key line, and Palmer himself for butchering his classic, how about this for starters:

Floodlights are on, and we’re at home,

We warm up, we’re using cones,

Maybe tonight, our luck will change,

Maybe we’ve learned, to shoot from range.

We can’t score noooo, we’re dirt cheap,

There’s no doubt, we’re in deep,

Your shirt is tight, you can’t breathe,

Less time in t'Mount, is all you need.

Whoa you like to think we’re made of Championship stuff oh yeah,

It’s closer to the truth to say we’re not good enough,

You know we’re gonna have to face it that we’re destined to drop,

Might as well face it that we’re destined to drop,

Might as well face it that we’re destined to drop……

May as well pack in then and chalk fook to it as without ambition to progress and achieve better football ceases to be entertaining. Afterall, football is an entertainment event, sky have made billions out of it.

To be fair we have played some entertaining football this season. The reality is we are bottom of the table & are not winning matches. Murray has gone some way to make us hard to beat & has achieved creditable draws, few of us would have expected vs Swansea & WBA, we do need a win though to actually have any sort of chance of staying up. I'm hoping one is round the corner, but Huddersfield is a very difficult game.

Agreed to some extent although Preston was a horror show tbh. Damage was done in the summer with the quick cashing in of key players, Pinnock and Moore being the pick for me. What was done then is virtual championship suicide and if that’s the owners game plan when they could’ve held out for more money at this level imho is just plain stupidity for me. let’s not forget, those players were under contract after all and needn’t have been sold, at least until January and only then if enough points were accumulated to reasonably assure championship survival. Not a given of course but I believe keeping the mainstay of a successful side together would’ve seen us higher in the league than rock bottom as things stand.
I just fail to see what progress has been made since promotion and so far it clearly looks like regression.

Yeah, I know, what I was getting at was if clubs know someone is allowed to leave it could attract a lower offer to test water
