between Man Utd and Man City reserves, 5300 gate, Interesting fact - not one foreign player in either team (unless you count Paddy Crerand!). How times have changed!

When I was doing my research for the Viv Anderson interview last year, even though I wasn't surprised I was still taken aback by the nationalities of the players in the European Cup Final. Only three countries represented in total.

Don't know if anybody saw the big match revisited last night on ITV4? Not one overseas player Fulham v Southampton. Fulham fielded Bobby Moore, Rodney Marsh and Georgie Best, who got sent off. Osgood played for the Saints, who actually turned out to be sinners with two absolutely despicable tackles, neither of which drew a booking. Got to say the old Dell had a really good atmosphere.

Thanks for this - I went straight to catch up and am watching the first part. Brighton v Palace at a packed Goldstone Ground. At number 6 for Palace is our very own Ian Evans.

Got this on Series Record now - looking forward to it in the coming weeks

I've got it series record. Former Reds on the programme were Ian Evans, Norman Hunter & Allan Clarke. The previous programme saw another former Red playing for Bristol City at Arsenal, Jimmy Mann.

Couple of interesting news items between the second and third matches. The first showed Fulham keeper Peter Mellor being forced to change his green jersey because it had non-regulation stripes down the sides. Only plain tops allowed! The second was a brief interview with Terry Mancini who had stepped down from the heights of Arsenal to finish his career at lowly Aldershot. Nice to see top players doing that.

Ok , just finished watching the Saints v Fulham match and you could see how upset the Fulham manager was. Bobby Moore penalised for a nothing challenge and that got Best sent off for dissent presumably? That led to a goal and the game changed.

What a frightening amount of talent on that pitch though! Moore, Best and Rodney Marsh for FFC. The Saints had Peter Osgood, Mick Channon and goal machine Ted MacDougall.

I know which era of top flight football I prefer, and it’s not the modern version. The 1970s had its hooligan problems but there were some great British players on show wherever you looked.
