Brentford have had an £800,000 bid rejected Would we go higher than that? Surely we could get someone else (like Isgrove) for less?
I think Aryibi is one worth putting off till January, when his contract is on its final 6 months. Chesterfield have had a strong start to the season and understandably are willing to risk losing him for free next summer in a bid to get promoted. Although I do feel he'd be a good signing for a lot of teams in this league, they are trying to exploit the crazy fee's that are flying around at the minute. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
We just got +5m for someone with 4 championship games under his belt. I also seem to recall everyone saying '2m minimum' last year for Sam
Very much reminds me of Yannick Bolasie. 800k sound way too much but if he progresses like Bolasie then its nothing.
It seems like a lot of money, but nowadays it's nothing for a team in the Championship. If the club think he's worth it, I'm sure they'll pay it. Afterall, we're rumoured to be signing a defender with about twenty first-team appearance to his name, mainly in League Two, for around £450,000. For once I have faith in the signings the club make, even though I know very little about most of them.
Nothing against Chesterfield at all but they and their fans do seem to suffer a bit from delusions of grandeur.
Good point actually. Guess I'm just used to us not spending large sums on players. and £800k still seems like a lot of money, when in championship standards it's fairly small change. Still prefer it when we sign lads for next to nothing and they turn out to be quality.
It's a no from me for that much. I'd rather use that money to offer hourihane and scowen a better contract and put towards a quality loan players wages
What is weird about that is that we spent £800,000 on Jan-Aage Fjortoft nearly 18 years ago. Odd how transfer fees don't always keep up with inflation. One was an experienced goal scoring forward who did a fair job for us in the Premier League. The other is an untried kid.
Football in general hasn't followed the inflation trends due to the sudden influx of turnover allowing increased values of players. £800k cash in 1998 would be worth about £1.2m now based on historic inflation rates. I would suggest a proven premier league striker with international pedigree would go for far more now. Something like £20m? So about 25 times the rate we paid in 1998. Assuming the same estimate figures a player in L1 costing £800k today would have cost £32k back in 2008.
Chesterfield using £3m as a basis for negotiation is my understanding Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We are not going higher than that it would be stupid if we did. Isgrove would cost the 800k as well though.
There having a laugh you can't. Chesterfield fans would compare it with Mawson but really you can't compare it.
I bet some Blades fans are still seething that we stole Jan-Aage off them. I mean, why would one of their strikers want to go downmarket and sign for Barnsley? Oh, I remember - we were in a higher league. We still are
