https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/matches/player-pronunciations/ Never seen it anywhere else but I'm sure there must be others. Nice touch though.
We were fed up of people calling Alex MOW-AT (mow the lawn, at home) anything but. It started from there. If we get the new website we want, it would be nice to have actual audio files also. In fairness though, commentators must just ignore it all. Because I still hear them butchering the names. You can lead a horse to water..
Mr Vita still retains the accent over the letter e in the how to pronounce it side, which means I still don't know how to pronounce it.
Oh, and there are a couple of other clubs who do this. Norwich is where we first spotted it. They hand you a sheet upon arrival with the correct pronunciations on. People still think we are winding them up with Mess Annersen. And in fairness, when I did commentary at Luton I called him Mads. Because everybody at the club does. It's just become normal after three years. He doesn't mind. It's like Martin Devaney. Nobody calls him DE-VANNY, despite that being how you pronounce it. Always DEV-AYNEY innit. Fascinating topic though. People pronounce my name as knüt for some reason.
Toby Sibbick, easy to pronounce for most commentators, even if they think he is currently out of the side.
If you were watching on the red button I've no sympathy. It's like watching a game after eight pints, it's that blurry. And the commentators (sat in a studio somewhere) know less than your average bbs'er about our players.
Yes, I know. My favourite is Callum Brittain, pronounced Callum Britain apparently. Not sure I know how to pronounce a single t different to a double.
Tbf I thought they did a good job last night ( talked us up as Battling Barnsley) but I think its always easier to be more forgiving after a wn!
