I didn't realise that since our more hands on owner (owners?) Came over from America he/they have replaced various high profile employees at Oakwell and our CEO, company secretary and academy CEO have ALL come from America and are all former real salt lake FC employees. Are former real salt lake employees really the best people for the job or is it just a very American jobs for the boys (and girls) that we operate?
We're as much Barnsley as Manchester City with their UAE owners, Catalan manager and football board, and Argentinian, Algerian, Spanish, Belgian, Barnsley, Ukrainian, Basque and deedar players are Mancunian. Admittedly they do have a squad player from Stockport, but then Mowatt is from Donny. In other words: we are not, at all, and that's just the way of the world. Edit: Someone at work the other day opined that the Premier League is basically the world league, but it just happens that the global cabal of players represent things named after places in England. He's correct, and some Championship clubs are similar.
Still Liverpool football club despite American owners .... the fans won't be bothered about who owns them. It's sport now and has been like this since sky got involved
But man city bring in the best from any country. We seem to be employing high ranking officials based on whether or not they're from America. That's totally different
In your opinion, we seem to be employing high-ranking officials based on whether or not they're from America. The kinder view - and I don't know the answer - is that either the best we can get are from America, or the ones the powers-that-be know and trust are from America and hence they get the job.
That's why it was a question more than a statement. It seems to be very inward thinking though to come over from a frankly small time club in America and just assume that the best possible people to run a multi million pound championship club at the other side of the world are people who worked at the same company in America and not even in the same roles.
We are Barnsley FC Franchise Limited. No connection between the owners and the town. Little connection between the town and the playing staff. And that last statement is not straightforward. They may not have been from Barnsley but there was a terrific connection with the likes of Barry Murphy, Ronnie Glavin and Neil Redfearn, even though they weren't born here. I see no-one in the present squad with whom we might form that bond. They are all mercenaries, and the ownership regime encourages them to be so. So the question is, if we can feel no connection with anyone associated with the club, what have we got and why would we support it financially?
I had never thought about this but it’s a bit like choosing a McD burger or a Burger King or in Barnsley’s case a Wimpy. It’s all about taste.
Melissa Terry was only appointed (quietly) just before Christmas.... https://www.linkedin.com/in/melissa-terry-8b3a01136?originalSubdomain=uk Dunno how we survived over 100 years without this newly created role.
from 2010 when she started out. Looking at her work history, looks like she still contracts out to America Youth set ups and wouldn’t be surprised if we have been using her since the Summer on a contract basis as she set up a company called D&M football consultants based in South Yorkshire in April 2019.
Has everyone seen the free video with Melissa Terry and our physio Rachel? About 12 minutes long and was released today for International Women's Day. Thought it was really good to hear from other people within the club.
